Review: Yes to Cucumbers Color Care Shampoo

Yes to Cucumbers Color Care Shampoo

I must admit I hesitate when it comes to the brand Yes To. I question why their products are found on popular websites specialising in natural and organic products. Choosing which ingredients to avoid will always be controversial in the Green Community, so I am going to refer to this brand as Free From because it is certainly not 100% clean. I love a bargain and felt the need to grabbed the Yes To Cucumbers Color Care shampoo whilst at my local TK Maxx. I paid £3.99 for a 500ml bottle which is about half the retail price. This shampoo is free from petroleum, SLS and parabens but it does contain Sodium Coceth Sulphate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Parfum (fragrance) and colours (CI 42090 Blue 1 & CI 19140 Yellow 5).

I am prone to an itchy scalp so have been cautious and not used this product on a daily basis. Instead I have rotated with Desert Essence and Essential Care. I do find this leaves my hair feeling lovely and soft. I am not convinced that this smells like cucumbers and to my nose it does has an artificial scent. It’s not horrid but unnatural and obviously an artificial fragrance which is no surprise given that "parfum" is listed in the ingredients.

I am sitting on the fence with this shampoo. I developed eczema on my neck and whilst I cannot be 100% certain, I have to question if this product is the culprit. I have no issue with the performance, in fact I am really surprised how nice my hair feels after washing but I am concerned about the ingredients on my skin. If you asked me to choose between Yes To and Essential Care, in all honesty, Essential Care shampoo remains my favourite because I do not risk irritation.

I would suggest that if you are not sensitive or fussy about ingredients then this shampoo is a nice budget friendly option. My advice is to be cautious, you know your skin best so you may or may not be able to use this.

Has anyone else tried products from the Yes To range? What do you think about their ingredients?
