Review Lily & Rabbit Coconut and Salted Coconut Soaps
(gifted/unpaid)

Truth is I haven't always been a fan of solid soap bars. Of course bars are a great way to help reduce plastic waste but they can be a bit messy on the bathroom sink. I finally over came this annoyance by investing in soap dishes with an integrated rack. It makes such a difference on containing drips and gives longevity to the soap as it can dry out been uses. It also pays to invest in a quality soap as from experience I have found many differences between brands.

Talking of quality, you may recall last year I wrote about Lily & Rabbit soaps. Goat milk is a core ingredient in their products but I'm excited to announce the launch of their Vegan range. The key ingredients in the new soaps are coconut oil and coconut milk.
Review Lily & Rabbit Coconut and Salted Coconut Soaps
The current vegan range consists of Coconut (unscented), Lemon Coconut Smoothie, Lime & Coconut and Coconut Ice plus their Salted soap counterparts. Lily & Rabbit Salted soaps have a swirl of Himalayan Pink Salt. Soap makers include salt for the benefits of exfoliation and acne prone skin may benefit from minerals naturally found in this ingredient.

As you can see Lily & Rabbit kindly sent me the Coconut and Salted Coconut soaps, both of which are fragrance free. We currently have the Coconut soap on the go in our bathroom for handwashing. It's holding up beautifully with no cracking or sogginess. I find this soap gives a lovely creamy lather and doesn't feel drying on my skin.

Maison Meunier Skincare Gentle Cleansing Gel Balm
(I purchased this product)

I have the Free From Skincare Awards to thank for this recent discovery. They have been introducing entrants on their instagram account and up popped Maison Meunier Skincare Gentle Cleansing Gel Balm. I was immediately intrigued because I have a soft spot for balm cleansers that emulsify with water.

"Born in Paris. Handcrafted in Manchester. Our collection is designed to help you to find your bliss. It will lift your spirits, nourish your body and rejuvenate your senses."

Maison Meunier Skincare Gentle Cleansing Gel Balm can be used as a cleanser or hydrating mask. Packaging is simple but elegant, with a glass jar, outer cardboard box, wooden spoon and cleansing pad. I was immediately drawn to the ingredients of acai, baobab oil and carrot seed, promising to hydrate and brighten skin. It is free from essential oils but has a natural aroma of apple blossom which I find gentle and unique. Certified Vegan and Cruelty free by the PETA and registered with the Vegan Society. It ticks a lot of boxes for me so I was excited to get stuck in.

Lets talk about how it looks and feels. The gel texture reminds me of thick honey or golden syrup and feels wonderful on the skin. Applied in a thin layer it can be massage easily across the face and it feels fantastic. You get the pleasure of a balm that becomes silky smooth with the warmth of your hands and face. I take my time with Maison Meunier Skincare Gentle Cleansing Gel Balm to fully experience the product and enjoy a relaxing moment. When you are ready to remove the cleanser you simply rinse away or use a damp cloth (I prefer the latter). It will gently remove light makeup (I wear CC cream and powder) but you may choose to use a dedicated makeup removing product beforehand. My skin never feels stripped but simply cleansed and refreshed. This gel balm cleanser is a pleasure to use and very easy to recommend to others.

Maison Meunier Skincare Gentle Cleansing Gel Balm feels like one to watch and I'm certainly intrigued to see how it will perform in the awards. If you're looking for something a bit different from the crowd definitely check out Maison Meunier Skincare.

Review Vemel Waterless Skincare Vitamin Boost Cleansing Balm
Most of the Instagram adverts that come my way are pure trash but up popped an interesting looking skincare brand and suddenly my bank account was £25 lighter. What exactly caught my eye? well if it's not already obvious then let me introduce you to Vemel Vitamin Boost Cleansing Balm. According to their website Vemel is a waterless skincare brand manufactured in Berkshire.

Vemel was born as an antidote to the chemical overload that we find in our every-day lives in our quest to help our children who suffered for years with eczema related skin conditions and allergies. We believe that by reducing the chemicals that we absorb on a daily basis we can make long terms benefits to our overall health.

I'm not a huge fan of the message above as everything in life is a chemical but I understand the sentiment behind it due to my own lifetime of eczema and allergies. I am a firm believer that our skin is often overloaded with unnecessary and irritating ingredients. Many of us with skin problems need to strip back our routines and heal or protect our skin from further damage.

For me, Vemel ticks a number of boxes when I'm looking for skincare. As they are a waterless skincare brand that allows formulas to be free from preservatives and allows other plant based ingredients to shine through. I am not against preservation as it's important for the health and safety of products but since I have an MI allergy I have an awareness that some preservatives may be irritants to sensitive skin. Another important factor for me is Vemel chooses not to use essential oils in their products which reduces allergens. They are also plastic free and certified Vegan.

Now that you have a little understanding of why I chose to purchase from Vemel Skincare, let me introduce you to the Vitamin Boost Cleansing Balm. You can see that a lot of care and attention has been spent on packaging and it's certainly attractive. This cleansing balm is formulated with shea butter, apricot oil, sunflower oil, berry wax, vitamin E, sea buckthorn and carrot. It's a solid balm consistency in the jar but melts with the warmth of your skin. If you have ever tried Lyonsleaf Beauty Balm then it's very similar in texture. The addition of a wooden spatula is necessary as I don't think I could scrap the balm from the jar as it's not super soft to the touch. Vemel also includes a cloth which is always great to include for those starting out with a balm cleanser but for me it's just another to add to my vast collection so not a necessity.

Cleansing balms are simple to use. Once I have scooped a small amount I warm it in my fingers (to melt) and then slowly and gently massage across my face. I take time to enjoy the process and when I'm ready I remove with a warm damp flannel (or the cloth provided). My makeup is minimal (Madara CC Cream and Everyday Minerals Powder) and I have no issues with removing the dirt and grime, the cloth is filthy with makeup so that's a good indication. I love balm cleansers because they don't strip my skin of moisture and I'm left with a silky, soft and hydrated face, vital in these winter months.

I really enjoy using Vemel Vitamin Boost Cleansing Balm and it's comparable to many others on the market in terms of formulation, usage and performance. It is very easy for me to recommend a product like this one. At the moment I'm definitely showing signs of stress in my skin and I've been unhappy with my complexion so it's important for me to use the right products. I have trusted Vemel to deliver quality ingredients in a way that isn't overly complicated and that's what I find works best for me. It's also great to see a brand that avoids fragrance, as regular readers know I am sensitive to linalool (found in essential oils).

If you'd like further information on Vemel Vitamin Boost Cleansing Balm or to view the rest of their skincare range, please visit Vemel Waterless Organic Skincare.

review Fill steel and glass cleaner
(I purchased this product)

Cleaning is a chore but we all have to do it at some point. For years now I've been seeking out household cleaning products with plant based ingredients. I've always struggled with sensitivity to mainstream brands that are highly perfumed or overbearing with bleach.

I was having trouble re-purchasing Tincture London Glass, Mirror & Steel Cleaner during lockdown so I was looking for an alternative. I ended up buying Fill Steel and Glass Cleaner. What stood out to me with Fill products is there are fragrance free options

"WE MAKE EVERYTHING OURSELVES, AT OUR OWN FAMILY RUN FACTORY IN NORTHAMPTONSHIRE WITH REAL CHEMISTS… COMBINING BIODEGRADABLE INGREDIENTS TO CREATE SIMPLE, MODERN & EFFECTIVE ECO CLEANING & LAUNDRY PRODUCTS. NO DYES. NO HARSH CHEMICALS. NO PLASTIC BOTTLES. LESS WASTE."

You may wonder why I buy a specific glass and steel cleaner over using a multi purpose product. Well the reason is I have found that some surface sprays don't cut through the grease and leave streaks on the steel hob and my glass back splash. I've a shiny new home and like to keep it that way.

Fill Steel and Glass Cleaner makes light work of cleaning surface around my home. It doesn't take much elbow grease to get everything looking 'spick and span'. This cleaner is packaged in a glass bottle and I purchased with a spray nozzle which is plastic but if you re-purchase or re-fill you can hang onto this part and re-use it. I did opt for the fragrance version and the scent of geranium is pleasant and not over powering.

I've been happy to discover Fill. Their ethos looks great with options to bulk buy and refill, products are vegan and cruelty free, packaging is cardboard and glass, ingredients are biodegradable and you can support local business. If you would like to buy the steel and glass cleaner or explore the entire product range then visit fillrefill.co

akin mild gentle fragrance free conditioner
(I purchased this product)

I've been struggling with eczema on my neck and shoulders during lockdown which lead me to rethink my haircare routine. I enjoy using Giovanni 2Chic Ultra-Sleek Conditioner but I've temporarily stopped using it opting for a fragrance free replacement. Akin was one of the first natural brands I ever tried and I regularly used their shampoos and conditioners in those early years. I'm sad to say they fell off my radar following the increase in green beauty products and growing market.

My quest for fragrance free conditioner had been right under my nose the entire time. I'm so pleased I decided to buy A'kin Mild & Gentle Fragrance Free Conditioner as it has provided much needed relief. Of course it may be purely coincidence but I've seen a difference. I always advocate stripping back your hair or skin care routine and going scent free when experiencing allergy and eczema flare ups.

This Akin conditioner lives up to its name - Mild and Gentle. It's formulated with rosehip oil, shea butter, jojoba oil and oat extract to soothe dry itchy scalps and provide moisture. I have shoulder length hair which is fine but thick and I colour it every 6-8 weeks. I need a conditioner that combats dryness but doesn't weigh it down. A little does go a long way and I'm cautious not to overload my fine hair. During application I feel this Akin conditioner detangles knots caused during the shampooing process. My hair feels silky and smooth during application and retains this through to styling. After the first use I pondered why I hadn't been using A'kin Mild & Gentle Fragrance Free Conditioner all along. Maybe I was side tracked by marketing promises, curiosity for new products or tightening of purse strings.

I've always recommended A'kin fragrance free products to others based on old experiences but now I feel happy having a fresh perspective under my belt. It's enjoyable to revisit long lost brands and I'm sure I'll delve back into the product range once more. In the meantime, I'm happy and with fingers crossed I'm hoping this itchy free lifestyle will continue for the foreseeable. One day I may venture back into the arms of Giovanni but for the moment A'kin Mild & Gentle Fragrance Free Conditioner has saved me from bad hair days.

lyonsleaf unfragrance beauty balm
(Gifted/Lyonsleaf Affiliate Link)

I introduced the green community to Lyonsleaf back in 2013 when I stumbled across their website. I believe I was the first blogger to write about them and I introduced my readership to this fantastic natural skincare brand. Over the years I've watched them grown in popularity, expanded their product range, re-branded and win multiple awards. I had to put my love of Lyonsleaf on hold due to my diagnosis of a linalool allergy but I'm pleased to say they have slowly introduced fragrance free products. I have previously reviewed Lyonsleaf Unscented Marshmallow Soften and Rejuvenate Facial Oil if it's of interest to you.

Lyonsleaf products are cruelty free and handmade in the UK. They formulate with home grown herbs harvested by workers earning a living wage. The packaging is mostly plastic free and can be recycled. Lyonsleaf are committed to an ongoing program of reducing carbon emissions, environmental impact and waste.

Lets focus our attention to Lyonsleaf Unfragranced Beauty Balm which is the unscented version of their best selling Beauty Balm. This multi purpose skincare balm contains babassu oil, shea butter, macadamia nut, jojoba oil, sunflower oil, calendula flower extract and vitamin E. The bonus with a water free formulation is it does not require the addition of preservatives and emulsifiers. Beauty Balm is designed to protect, nourish and rebalance skin making it ideal for all but especially suitable for people prone to acne, perioral dermatitis, eczema and psoriasis. Beauty Balm is one of a handful of Lyonsleaf products which are suitable for vegans.

Lyonsleaf Unfragranced Beauty Balm is a rich and luxurious balm which suits the oil cleansing method, this is a very popular way to cleanse skin. Beauty balm feels heavy in texture but easily melts with the warmth of your skin. After massaging into your skin simply wipe away using a damp wash cloth. For an additional spa like treatment at home, try holding a warm cloth to your face for a few seconds before removing the product. Beauty Balm doesn't leave a greasy residue behind but there is a noticeable difference and your skin feels extremely hydrated. It's a sensation which you will either enjoy or dislike but if you ever cleanse and feel parched of moisture this is the cleansing balm I would recommend to you. Speaking as someone with dry skin, Beauty Balm can be applied as a rich facial or body cream so it's perfect for those biting Winter winds which often leave skin feeling parched and uncomfortable.

Green People Nordic Roots Scent Free Cranberry Micellar Foam
(gifted PR sample)

I was very excited to learn of Green People's new skincare launch, Nordic Roots. Why was I so excited? because every product is scent free and I don't have to worry about fragrance allergens. I'm a long-time customer of Green People products, I trust the brand and I was keen to explore this latest addition.

Nordic Roots is inspired by the upbringing and heritage of Green People's founder, Charlotte Vøhtz. It celebrates native flora and fauna offering Scandinavian values of simplicity with scent free, gender neutral, clean and functional skincare that delivers results. Key ingredients include sugar beets, apple cellular water, hop flowers, oat kernel and Atlantic seaweed. Care and attention have also been applied to the packaging which is made with 25% grass, a renewable raw material that requires less water and energy during production. The Nordic Roots collection consists of four products - Hyaluronic Booster Serum, Scent Free Apple Complex Moisturiser, Scent Free Marine Facial Oil and Scent Free Cranberry Micellar Foam.

Scent Free Cranberry Micellar Foam
A foam cleanser takes me out of my comfort zone as I usually opt for cream and oil products. This dispenses as foam out of the pump bottle and so naturally it's a very gentle and soft sensation when applied to skin. Your instructed to massage one or two pumps over the face and remove with a soft cloth and rinse with warm water. The key ingredients are antioxidant cranberry extract and apple cellular water to refresh and hydrate. Cranberry Micellar Foam is suitable for all but I can see the benefits of using on very sensitive skin. During the heatwave this cleanser was the one I reached for. It's ideal to use when you're feeling hot and sweaty as the lightweight foam feels refreshing, it's also a quick and easy cleansing process. I'd recommend following up with a toner if wearing makeup as on occasions I couldn't quite achieve the perfect level of removal and need that extra step. Cranberry Micellar Foam is still a little out of my comfort zone but I do find it an interesting and innovative new product. I would certainly look to purchase other products from the Nordic Roots collection.

eview Nature's Kitchen Summer Skin Box, PoaPoa Soap Dish, Skinlove Shower Gel
(gifted)

It's a mix bunch this month so lets jump straight in and tell you about these 'new to me' products that I've been testing.

Nature's Kitchen Go Glow Summer Skin Box
This gift set contains Summer Skin Cooling Spray and Summer Skin After Sun Lotion, both are fragrance free. Aloe Vera is the key ingredient to both products and I can say that during the recent heatwave the Cooling Spray was a delightful addition to warm days. The After Sun Lotion has a pleasant texture which feels hydrating on skin but doesn't feel sticky, an important factor for me in the high temperatures. The presentation box is a nice touch for gifting. It works well general sun exposure and if we ever get to go on Summer Holidays again I can see this as a nice addition for the beach or pool.

PoaPoa Coconut Soap Holder
A soap dish upcycled from coconut shells and handmade by skilled artisans in Ghana. Poa Poa use coconut oil in their soaps so these dishes use up leftover shells after extraction of ingredients. A unique soap dish that serves it's purpose and gives back. It has draining slots in the base so you will find yourself having to wipe over your sink from day to day. Stylish and eco-friendly, what more could you ask for.

Skinlove Invigorating Shower Gel Grapefruit, Lime & Ginger
A pleasant body wash that produces a soft creamy lather but for me it lacks the promise of an invigorating scent as I find the fragrance mild. I chose this shower gel because it doesn't list linalool in the ingredients (one of my allergies!). It doesn't feel drying or stripping of moisture, an important point for me having eczema prone skin. Performance is as you would expect from this type of product it's just the scent which has let me down.

Review Lily & Rabbit Naked, Bee Naked and Lavender Soap
(gifted)

Lily & Rabbit had three soap shortlisted in the Free From Skincare Awards and they came away with a Silver for Sea Kelp with Rosemary & Spearmint and Bronze for Nettle with Spearmint. This adorably named company are handcrafting soaps in North Yorkshire. Lily & Rabbit have focused on their favourite ingredients olive oil (inspired by Italian soaps) and raw goat milk. They are mindful of sensitive skin and use natural colourants, exfoliators and essential oils. For fellow vegans, Lily & Rabbit are in the process of creating suitable soaps and so you may wish to follow them on Instagram for launch information.

Here's some feedback from the testers for the Free From Skincare Awards -

“Still rock solid after a month’s testing … didn’t go soggy, break or lose fragrance … An extremely gentle, non-drying soap that lathers lightly over the skin and leaves hands feeling clean and refreshed” (Sea Kelp with Rosemary & Spearmint)

“Really enjoyed this product .. Lather wasn’t excessive, but worked efficiently without drying out skin … cleansed effectively, leaving clean, fresh and reassuring fragrance, which wasn’t lost throughout month long use … It delivered constantly and I would buy it again” (Nettle with Spearmint)
Review Lily & Rabbit Naked, Bee Naked and Lavender Soap
Lily and Rabbit kindly sent me three soaps - Naked, Bee Naked and Lavender. It's my husband who has carried out the majority of testing and we have started with the Naked soap. This one is a simple gentle soap with no scent and formulated with goats milk, olive oil and castor oil. In comparison Bee Naked includes the addition of oatmeal and honey. It is these two soaps that I would recommended for sensitive skin and some people may find oats beneficial for skin prone to eczema.

I agree with the testers in that Lily & Rabbit soaps are solid and don't go soggy. Over the years we've had soaps that turn to mush almost instantly but these hold up to daily use. The lather produced is gentle and just enough (to be expected from a product free from SLS). As I'm prone to dry hands the Naked soap hasn't worsen this condition and leaves skin feeling soft and not stripped of moisture. I've been impressed and as for my husband he's commented a few times on how he is enjoying using the Naked soap, how it holds up well and feels nice and solid.

Ocean Saver All Purpose Floor Cleaner Eco Drop Rhubarb Coral
(I paid for this product, price correct at time of publication)

I've remained loyal to the same household cleaning products for years. I've been using a combination of Bio-D, Tincture LondonGreenscents and I have a favourite product from each brand. During lockdown and with the loss of my job I was seeking accessible and budget friendly options. I thought that might be mission impossible but I'm pleased to say I found Ocean Saver.

Reviews for Love Lula Green People Deodorant, Lavera Shampoo, Ooh Oils of Heaven Face Oil
(Gifted/prices correct at time of publication)

Hey! folks I hope you are all keeping well. It's been a difficult time but testing products has been a welcome distraction. I don't know about you but I am well and truly upping my time spent on pampering myself. This month has included a mixture of items and I'll give you a quick overview and my thoughts on the following.

Green People Neutral Scent Free Deodorant - I've spoken about this many times before but natural deodorants haven't gone well for me because of my allergies. I also struggle with the price difference between mainstream and natural as I currently use a Superdrug roll-on for £1 and Green People comes in at £10.50. I'm in a privileged position to trial Green People Neutral Scent Free Deodorant so I thought I'd take the plunge. The Green People Scent Free range is one I have always recommended and regularly use their Anti-Ageing 24 hour Cream. The key ingredients to this deodorant are Organic Aloe Vera, Prebiotics, Alum & Zinc Ricinoleate. Green People deodorant has a soft and gentle feeling on skin without stickiness and I haven't noticed any issues with residue on clothing. I've been happy with the effectiveness and it works well for me. I'm currently not working so the only sweating I do comes from a brisk walk or hoovering the house and after both activities I haven't noticed stinky arm pits. I'm confident to recommend Green People Neutral Scent Free Deodorant and if you visit their website you'll see good feedback from customers.

Lavera Hair Care Family Shampoo - I've always been a fan of Lavera products, it was one of the first brands I came across and up until I was diagnosed with linalool allergy, I was regularly using their colour & care shampoo. I chose this Family shampoo for my husband but it also happens to not list linalool in the ingredients. The key ingredients are apple and quinoa which promises to give a gentle and effective wash. My husband is partly bald so I'm keen to find shampoo that not only cleans hair but protects his sensitive scalp. As the name "family" suggests this shampoo is suitable for all, perfect for those who like a fuss free routine and are not targeting a specific issue. As it is Plastic Free July, I note that Lavera shampoo bottles are made from 100% recycled milk, juice and water bottles and can be recycled.

Ooh! - Oils of Heaven Organic Plum Conditioning Face Oil - I've always been a fan of plum kernel oil because it has the most wonderful scent which will remind you of almonds and marzipan. When the majority of my routine is without fragrance then I get very excited by ingredients that have a natural aroma. Plum Oil is rich in Vitamin A, E, oleic acid, linoleic acid and anti-oxidants. It's an emollient that nourishes and hydrates and can be of benefit to dry and mature skin types. I think this is a lovely light silky oil which penetrates my skin easily without greasy residue. Over the years I have written about products that contain plum kernel oil so it's wonderful to be able to use as a stand alone ingredient. I honestly adore this oil so I was pleased to see Ooh! Oils add it to their range and was quick to order. As long as you enjoy the unique scent then I'm pretty confident you are going to want to try this for yourself, I highly recommend.

BAO Skincare Natural Organic Vegan
(Gifted PR Samples)

At the heart of BAO Skincare is its founder Beth who created her organic and vegan products to managed sensitive skin. I think it would be fair to say it's a familiar back story as to why Beth started creating her products. Many of us turn to a holistic and natural lifestyle when experiencing skin issues or ill health. BAO skincare is handmade in Dorset and formulated without the synthetic ingredients that many of us choose to avoid. When using preservatives BAO states they will be free from palm oil. Products such as balms, salts and scrubs are formulated without water and do not require the same preservation systems. You can also be assured that products are certified by COSMOS Soil Association and The Vegan Society. I was kindly sent a couple of products from BAO's skincare range so let me talk you through my thoughts. For my readers with sensitivities please note these products contain nut oils and essential oil fragrance allergens.

Brightening Hand Cream (with sweet orange & geranium) - a light texture cream infused with the scents of orange, geranium and may chang. The formulation includes moisturising oils of avocado, macadamia, apricot, shea butter and sweet almond. The glass bottle with pump not only looks stylish but it's practical and recyclable. BAO hand cream doesn't feel sticky or greasy yet it hydrates the skin with lasting performance. You can pair this with Brightening Hand Wash for a complete hand care routine. Overall it's a lovely hand cream which I am sure many people would enjoy using.

Luminosity Body Scrub (with coconut & grapefruit) - I don't naturally gravitate towards scrubs but I can experience flaky skin with seasonal changes so I need to tackle that a couple of times throughout the year. I think the recyclable aluminium pouch is not only creative but practical, it's resealable and safer than glass jars. The scrub isn't swimming in oil and drier than others I have tried. This isn't a criticism as I prefer this type of formulation, some body scrubs are impractical and leave you with a dangerous slippery bath/shower. The scrubbing action comes from cane sugar but also includes green clay, almond oil, apricot kernel, coconut and cocoa butter to help moisturise the skin. It has a delicate scent from grapefruit, may chang and red mandarin. I found the scrub comfortable to use and it didn't leave my skin red raw but was suitably rough to be effective in removing visible flaky skin. That being said I would always advise caution when using scrubs as they disrupt the skin barrier.

I've enjoyed using the Brightening Hand Cream and Luminosity Body Scrub and appreciate the consideration that has gone into the naturally derived formulations. From my own experiences I am happy to recommend BAO Skincare and would suggest you visit their website to explore the full product range.

Dr Botanicals Cocoa & Coconut Superfood Hydrating Body Lotion and Lavera Berry Care & Gentle Care Hand Wash
(Gifted)

I hope you well and coping through current world events? There have been plenty of ups and downs for me and I'm finding blogging a welcomed distraction. As I now have plenty of time on my hands, I am able to explore new products and build relationships with brands so I hope you will join me in this latest review.

Dr Botanicals Cocoa & Coconut Superfood Hydrating Body Lotion
Lets start with whats important to me. This body lotion is suitable for Vegans and does not contain fragrance allergens making it a good all-rounder for a variety of skin types including sensitive skin. It's key ingredients are Coco Butter and Coconut oil both of which work to hydrate, smooth and restore. For me this is a light cream which works well in the summer weather as it disappears quickly without feeling sticky or greasy. As someone with very dry skin when applied in the morning it will last through to the evening but visible flaky skin does return so I need to reapply regularly. This isn't a major negative just something to keep in mind and I almost come to expect this from a of a body lotion as I'm prone to eczema my skin barrier is weakened. I was hoping for a rich coconut and cocoa scent but it's not there, now it might just be my hayfever stricken senses however the neutral aroma is pleasant and doesn't clash with other skincare products. Over the years I've tried a handful of Dr Botanicals products, each one has it's own merits but I've never been won over enough to repurchase. This body lotion wouldn't get me through the winter months as I'd need to layer with oils but it's great for warm sunny days. I recommend Dr Botanicals Cocoa & Coconut Superfood Hydrating Body Lotion if you enjoy a simple skincare routine without overpowering fragrances.

For obvious reasons we are getting through hand soap like it's going out of fashion. It's important to me that our soap is free from ingredients that may strip the skin of moisture. Pre-existing dry skin and eczema have been tricky to manage as the stresses of extra hand washing takes its toll. Lavera has been around for 25 years so they are one of the first pioneers into the world of natural and organic skincare and makeup. I've never been disappointed in their products and they offer affordability for the entire family with an extensive range of products. The liquid hand washes are new and suitable for Vegans, they are available in 250ml pump bottle or 500ml at home refill which is a great option and allows you to reuse packaging. Basis Sensitive Gentle Care Hand Wash is extra mild and caring (it replaces the Lavera Basis Sensitive Liquid Soap), Berry Care Fruity Hand Wash has a fruity fresh fragrance and Lime Care Hand Wash is for citrus lovers. I've been very happy with the performance of these liquid hand washes. I would have preferred if the Gentle Care hand wash was formulated without fragrance allergens but these are in my home for my husband and any future guests to use. Lavera is always my recommendation for any budget conscious consumers.

Typology Paris based natural skincare brand
(gifted/press samples)

In between the junk mail there is the occasional gem that peaks my interest and Typology did exactly that. Products ticked all the right boxes for me - vegan, cruelty free, minimalist formulations, ethical and fragrance free (with exception of Eaux de Parfums). This is a genderless brand which is 100% online model and created by Ning Li, Founder of MADE.com. Typology designs and produces concentrated, natural products in France that are active, effective and sustainable. Many of the products are designed to mix and match to allow you to create tailored formulations.
Typology solid soothing cleansing bar
I honestly think my heart skipped a beat when I realised this is a range free from essential oils. Any long time followers will be aware of my issues with linalool (allergen present in some essential oils). When I accepted the offer to receive products I wasn't expecting so many to turn up and I'm very grateful to be able to explore the range in such depth. It certainly makes for easy reviews as there is so much to cover so I will start with the products that I would naturally gravitate towards.

7 Ingredient Makeup Removing Oil - I adore using a cleansing oil and naturally opt for ones with minimalist formulations as I don't require a long ingredient list. Typology has created a good product here which is light and easily removed without leaving greasy residue. It's a winner for me and I honestly can't fault it.

Dry Skin Serum (100% Squalane) - Before anyone panics this squalane is derived from olives. I've never use squalane as a stand alone ingredient so I was keen to see how my skin would react. It sits on my skin for some time which is interesting but feels nice and hydrating. At first I didn't feel there was much "wow" factor to this ingredient but it has grown on me with time. I think this is an ingredient which would do well in combination with products and it is suggested to follow up with your daily cream or oil.
Typology Dry Skin Serum and Hydrating Serum
Hydrating Serum (3% Hyaluronic Acid + 2% B5) - As name suggestions this serum could be ideal for those who experience dry skin. Hyaluronic acid has been a buzz word in skincare for quite some time. The B5 in this serum stands for Pro Vitamin B5 (aka Panthenol) like hyaluronic acid it helps retain moisture and softness. I have to be truthful and say that hyaluronic acid as a stand alone ingredient does very little for my skin and I would argue it can have a drying effect. For me, the mix and match concept of Typology comes into play with a product like this one.

10 Ingredient Hand Balm - at the moment we are all battling with dry skin and a decent hand cream is a must have item. Despite the name, this is a cream formulation which feels silky on the skin without greasiness. It sinks in beautifully and feels lovely. The packaging is stylish and practical. The formulation is simple with hydrating ingredients including Hyaluronic acid. I quickly became a fan of this one and again one that I can't fault at this time.

Sweet Almond Oil - Typology have a full range of single ingredient oils which can be applied daily to the face, body or hair. Almond has always been a personal favourite and I can understand why it was sent to me. Almond oil nourishes and protects which is exactly what I need when dealing with my sensitive skin. I will use this to cleanse and moisturise (body & face).

Roman Chamomile Hydrolate - as with the oils there are several hydrolates to choose from according to your skin type and needs. Chamomile is known for soothing sensitive skin and would be one I would select for myself. I use this as a toner step in my routine, it will remove traces of cleanser whilst calming the skin.
Typology Eaux de Parfums
I can't really find a reason to fault Typology. The packaging is recyclable (more info available on their website) and you can't deny it looks super stylish in your bathroom which is an added bonus. As someone with sensitive skin it's lovely to be able to select products to my individual needs and Typology would easily slot into an established skincare routine. I also believe the price point will appeal to most people. I will always celebrate brands with fragrance free products. Essential oils can be wonderful and uplifting ingredients but some people do not understand they are potent and contain allergens. If you ever feel your skin is fragile and sensitive then it could be worthwhile leaving out fragrances be it artificial or plant based. There are so many products in the range that I highly recommend exploring the Typology website for yourself.

review Nature's Kitchen Face and Body Milk Smoothie and Berry Beautiful Skin Polish
(Gifted)

I'm gravitating towards Nature's Kitchen Skincare at the moment because I have realised many of their products are free from linalool (one of my allergies). It's a brand that takes me back to my teenage years when I used to spend all my money in The Body Shop. I think it has a similar vibes because of it's fruity and chocolate products.

Nature's Kitchen Chocolate & Vanilla Face and Body Milk Smoothie is a new addition to the product range. The fun and novelty factor is sure to win over everyone. Packaging is super cute and recyclable, it also comes with a smoothie recipe. I will say I am always cautious of large glass jars in the bathroom so I am mindful of this as you don't want to drop it. Nature's Kitchen Milk Smoothie is for use in the shower and use it as you would a body wash. It took me a couple of shakes to get the smoothie out of the jar as it's a thick 'milkshake' consistency. The aroma is pleasant and not overpowering with gentle hints of cocoa and vanilla. I found this product was best applied with my hands as it didn't work quite so well with a sponge. The smoothie feels silky smooth and washes off easily.

"Our Chocolate & Vanilla Face & Body Milk Smoothie Wash has been created to indulge your skin and your senses to leave you with super soft, healthy skin, all day long."

My skin did feel smooth and soft after leaving the shower but sadly that feeling didn't last all day as my dry and flaky skin was noticeable later on. I wasn't expecting any miracles from this product and I honestly chose it for the novelty factor. It's innovative and attractive so I would certainly enjoy gifting but I don't feel its the new 'must have' in my routine. If chocolate & vanilla doesn't appeal to your senses then Strawberry & Cranberry or Banana & Coconut Milk Smoothies are available. Ingredients are vegan so do not be put off by the name 'milk smoothie' if you are allergic to milk (as I am!).

As I mentioned I have flaky skin at the moment so it felt like a good opportunity to try Nature's Kitchen Berry Beautiful Skin Polish. Exfoliators are not part of my daily skincare routine as my skin is often too sensitive but I usually find a use for them when the season changes from winter to spring. This scrub uses natural bamboo cane and red berry fruit seeds plus extracts of red grapes, cherry, raspberry, blackcurrant, blueberry, pomegranate, strawberry, cranberry, acai and goji berries to gently buff skin. It's a fluid consistency with very small granules. As someone with sensitive skin this is a gentle exfoliator because it isn't overloaded with scrubbing particles but I think it might disappoint some and could do with a little more 'scrubby' action. Overall it's a pleasant product to use and doesn't scratch the skin to leave it red raw or irritated.

I've had great fun exploring more products from Nature's Kitchen and it's lovely to have skincare which brings a little cheer to your bath time routine. I recommend exploring the range for yourself. How I maintain healthy hair when prone to eczema and allergies
(affiliate link marked *)

I always talk about skincare but rarely mention the products I use on my hair. If you are interested in looking back through the archives, I think the last hair care routine was written in 2017. I refrain from continually swapping out products because I spent years trying to manage a sensitive scalp and eczema covered my neck which I attribute to shampoo (and stress). I never want to return to those dark days however I'm now armed with a piece of information I was lacking back then and that's my sensitivity to linalool and MI, a diagnosis which I believe made a huge difference to my life.

One product I would never switch out is my *Odylique Gentle Herb Shampoo and I've been banging on about it since 2013. It just works really well for me, it did take a bit of getting used to at first but once I figured things out I truly believe it contributed to balancing out my skin and maintaining a healthy scalp. The formula does not contain SLS but lathers up well and the trick to that is to have very wet hair and thoroughly massage. I have now managed to get my husband switched over to Odylique shampoo and have seen a reduction in his skin irritations (on back of his neck). A common question I've had over the years has been that Odylique doesn't sell a matching conditioner. They believe many people doesn't feel they need one with their shampoos however I have continued to use a conditioner. My hair is thick and can get super knotty so I need this type of treatment to help smooth my hair.

If you've been following my routines over the years then you will know I've used a variety of conditioners. I usually stick to one for several months or years until I hit a problem with it - discontinued, formulation changes, unavailable through stockists or budget constraints. Last year I experimented with three conditioners from Giovanni. I ended up settling on Giovanni 2Chic Ultra-Sleek Conditioner and have repurchased a couple of times. I believe it makes my hair softer, more manageable and doesn't weigh it down. I've always tried to incorporate a heat protection and leave in conditioner type product to combat dryness from styling tools and in recent months I added Giovanni 2chic Ultra-Moist Dual Action Protective Leave-In Spray to my routine. At the time of writing this I'm almost at the end of this bottle. I really notice a difference if I don't apply a styling spray and I'm hoping its working even though it might not always be visible to the eye. I am now contemplating purchasing another bottle but am also tempted to try something new (that's easily said than done with my allergies).

If you are interested in purchasing these products, they are widely available online either direct with the brand or through online retailers.

Alteya Liquid Soap, Benecos Lip Balm, Organii Shower Gel, Nature's Kitchen Moisturiser
(Gifted from Love Lula)

As you may know I've been working with Love Lula for a couple of years. I'm able to select products from their site and pass on my feedback to readers. Last month I chose the products pictured above so let me give you an overview of my thoughts and recommendations. As a side note every product featured is free from linalool but may contain other fragrance allergens. Remember to always  check the labels as formulas can change.

Alteya Certified Organic Liquid Soap (Chamomile & Calendula and Grapefruit & Orange) - this is a 'new to me' brand and I've merely dipped into their range by choosing to try their liquid soaps.

"Alteya Organics is a fast growing and a multiple international award-winning family-owned USDA and NaTrue certified organic beauty and skin care company with our own rose and lavender fields, distillery and a state-of-the art skin care manufacturing facility in the heart of The Rose Valley in Bulgaria"

Alteya liquid soaps come in a variety of aromas and two sizes - 250ml and 500ml. The consistency of these soaps is fluid in comparison to others I have in my home. It generates a good amount of lather which I know some people may find important as it creates enjoyment and ease of usage. Chamomile & Calendula is a calming fragrance where as Grapefruit and Orange is uplifting. Overall this soap is fairly good at not leaving my hands feeling dry but like most people at the moment my skin has suffered damage prior to trialing the Alteya liquid soaps.

Benecos Lipbalm Vanilla  - I am already familiar with Benecos lip balms as the classic version was Winner of the Overall Award for 'Best Free From Skincare Product' 2017 at the Free From Skincare Awards. What I like about these balms is they are affordable and suitable for Vegans. They are formulated with natural and organic butters and waxes (shea butter, coca butter and jojoba oil) which protects and cares for lips helping the skin to feel soft, smooth and kissable.

Nature's Kitchen Super Protein Skin Boosting Gentle Care Moisturiser - I've tried a couple of products from Nature's Kitchen and really enjoyed them however with this moisturiser I have decided it doesn't quite suit my needs. Even though Nature's Kitchen Super Protein Skin Boosting Gentle Care Moisturiser is packed full of interesting ingredients, for me, the consistency is too light and it doesn't tackle my dry skin. My personal opinion would be that if you have sensitive skin which is younger and less demanding or you enjoy a lighter texture of cream then it would be worth a try.

Organii Shower Gel Argan - I've been using Organii Shea Butter shower gel for some time now but thought this was a good opportunity to try the Argan version to compare. Argan oil is rich in Vitamin E and full of fatty acids so it's a good natural moisturiser. In terms of fragrance this one is milder than the shea butter but neither are overpowering it's just a delicate hint which I appreciate. I apply my body washes with a Konjac Sponge and Organii produces a decent amount of foam which I enjoy. I'm always happy to give my recommendation for Organii as I honestly do love using their products.

Natural Soap Bars for Hand washing
Washing hands is at the forefront of our minds at the moment and stocks in the supermarket have been wiped out but there are lots of independent soap makers on the internet. Solid soap bars have become even more popular in recent years thanks to the zero waste movement. If you are still struggling to find soap then I would suggest turning your attention to smaller business and supporting them through this difficult time.  With that in mind I have put together a quick list of soap makers and retailers for you to browse and maybe place an order with them.

Introduction to Lucky Cloud Skincare
Let me introduce you to Lucky Cloud Skincare. I recently made a gift purchase from them and wanted to offer support at this difficult time. Lucky Cloud Skincare are based in Edinburgh, Scotland and produce natural and vegan skincare. Products are handmade in small batches using plant based ingredients to formulate beautiful oils and balms. They have a fantastic ethos with recyclable packaging, no animal testing plus high quality and ethically sourced ingredients. Lucy, the founder of Lucky Cloud has struggled with sensitive skin and created products to try and address her needs. All products fully comply with the European cosmetic regulations and have been tested for their safety and stability by leading industry assessors.

I encourage you to explore the product range especially if you love balms and facial oils. Lucky Cloud Skincare also have a range of solid soap bars but you need to be quick as at the time of writing only peppermint remains in stock. I am sure they will re-stock in the future so bookmark the page. I tend to judge a brand on their lip balm flavours and opt for food scents so coconut and vanilla are sure to be a winner.

If you have the opportunity and means to support indie brands then now is your chance. Come back and let me know on social media what you purchased.

Review Lucy Bee Reviving Cleansing Cream Unscented
(I purchase this product & decided to review)

I've been using the same cleansing routine for a year and a few weeks ago, before crazy lockdown, I'd decided to switch things up. I placed an order with Lucy Bee and bought their Reviving Cleansing Cream. Now you might know Lucy Bee for their pantry staples but were you aware they made skincare products? Their natural fragrance free soap had been on my radar since the 2019 Free From Skincare Awards so I'd been meaning to explore the range. At the heart of Lucy Bee is the love for coconut oil and this includes their skincare range. I'm a huge fan of coconut oil and my skin tolerates this ingredient very well. As a brand, Lucy Bee are ethical, conscious of their impact on the environment (No Palm Oil) and have several certifications - Fairtrade, Organic, Vegan and Cruelty Free.
