B Skincare Aloe Vera Moisturiser & Soothing Aftershave Balm

B Skincare Aloe Vera Moisturiser & Soothing Aftershave Balm

One bored afternoon and a random Google search lead me to discover B Skincare a cruelty free, natural and handmade skincare company based in Cornwall. I was won over by the website but the first hurdle I faced was ingredients are not listed on the site. Usually that is the point where I walk away from buying. For me, having this information at my finger tips is not just about clarifying natural content of a product, it is also about checking for allergens. On this occasion I decided to send an email asking for the full ingredients for the Lavender & Honey moisturiser. I received a reply within 24 hours which did impress me as usually you end up never getting a response or a reply weeks later when the urge to shop has disappeared or you choose something else from a company who provides the information you need. I am not the only one that gets frustrated over lack of ingredients on websites, it came up last week in the #whatsorganic chat and Skinsmatter recently blogged about it (click here).

I ended up ordering the Aloe Vera moisturiser (for me) and Soothing Aftershave Balm (for my other half). The Aloe moisturiser is lovely and rich but at the same time it doesn't feel heavy, my skin can easily absorb so I can quickly apply make up over the top. Although this says fragrance free, I guess that to mean no added essential oils, so the very delicate aroma I pick up is a hint of rose which is present in the formulation. I have been struggling over how to describe the consistency. It is a nice feeling on skin but you can definitely tell it contains aloe as it has a cooling, gel like texture.

Here are the ingredients in this moisturiser (copied from the jar). They are listed in INCI on the label and I have added in the English for you - Aqua (water), Aloe Vera, Helianthus Annus (Sunflower), Cetearyl Alcohol, Prunnus Amygdalus (Almond), Glycerin, Cera Alba (beeswax), Rosa Centafolia (Rose), Dehydroacetic Acid, Benzyl Alcohol. For anyone who keeps an eye on preservatives in natural skincare, this company uses Dehydroacetic Acid which scores 1 on the EWG database but I have read that the European Commission has classified it as 'harmful or toxic' as it is readily absorbed by the skin1. I think it's important for you to do your own research and make an informed decision as to whether you will allow this ingredient in your skincare. Remember when a moisturiser is sold in a jar and contains water, a preservative is necessary and there are equal concerns over Phenoxyethanol.

I have to say I am really liking this aloe vera cream and it compares well with my beloved Dr Organic Pomegranate Cream and Antipodes RejoiceA little goes a long way and I can see this jar lasting me months if I only apply to my face. I would happily use this on any part of my body because I feel aloe vera is a versatile ingredient.

As for the Aftershave balm, I think my boyfriend is enjoying using it. He did mention it was "very good and soothing" and coming from him that is high praise. He has made no complaints about irritation and I like the scent, it reminds me of sherbet lemons. Despite being called a balm it is gel like liquid and it disappears quickly into skin, I tested it out on my hand.

Overall, I am so pleased I discovered this little brand. Products are presently nicely and seem to be performing very well on our delicate skin (boyfriend included). Prices are budget friendly, the Aloe Vera moisturiser (60ml) cost me £6.50 and the Aftershave Balm £6.95 (100ml). Definitely visit the website as there is a wide range of products - cleansers, moisturisers, hand & foot, lip care and remedies.

What do you think of these products/brand? Are you tempted to buy or would the lack of ingredients on the website deter you from ordering? Do you have concerns about the preservatives used?
