Lamazuna Gentle Cleansing Duo Set and Eco Refillable Toothbrush
(gifted/unpaid)

This month my attention was drawn to Lamazuna, a french cosmetics brand available through Love Lula. Zero waste skincare is currently on trend and everyone is turning their attention to improving their packaging and overall waste materials. There were two items which caught my attention - Lamazuna Gentle Cleansing Duo Set and Lamazuna Eco Refillable Toothbrush

Lamazuna was founded in 2010 by entrepreneur Laetitia Van de Walle. The brand's mission is to make it easier for anyone looking to find a more eco friendly alternative to disposable plastic beauty products. Every product is vegan and cruelty free. They are made from either minerals or plants and all of the packaging is printed with vegetable inks and fully compostable or recyclable. I recommend looking further into this brand because on paper it all sounds very impressive.
I fell under the spell of super cute packaging and this cleansing set would make an excellent Christmas Gift. Lamazuna Gentle Cleansing Duo Set contains a solid facial cleanser and five eco friendly cleansing wipes. The solid cleanser is the adorable yellow cloud shape that you see in my photos. It lathers up in your hands, the creamy suds feel pleasant on skin and easily rinsed away. The set is marketed towards 'normal' skin types and I would agree as it didn't suit my mature dry skin. The formulation contains parfum but does not use essential oils. I would suggest the set would be ideal for teens or minimalist skincare types. The cleansing wipes are soft and gentle. The instructions say that you add water and swipe away makeup. I admit I haven't put this to the test but the pads have a multi-purpose use and replace disposable versions. I am sure they would be very useful.

I haven't found my perfect bamboo toothbrush so this one seemed a good compromise. The handles is 'bioplastic' made from 70% castor derivatives and 30% plastic. The design allows you to replace the head and re-use the handle, you could say it's a concept similar to electric toothbrushes. Lamazuna are part of the Terra Cycle Zero Waste Box programme. Toothbrush heads returned to them will be sent for recycling and same goes for the handle (although they claim the handle will last you a lifetime). My thoughts on this item are the handle is very comfortable to hold and has a good weigh and grip compared to bamboo toothbrushes. I have found the head a little on the large size but that is probably easily resolved by selecting a smaller option next time. I will be interested to see how this holds up on a long term basis. The concept is only future proof if replacement brush heads are readily available to purchase.

By Sarah London Organic Hair Oil and Georganics Oil Pulling Mouthwash
(Gifted/prices correct at time of publication)

Georganics is a brand I've known for a while and they recently launched onto Love Lula's site. They are a natural, sustainable and ethical oral care brand. Georganics pride themselves on being zero waste, plastic free, biodegradable, vegan and cruelty free (certified by PETA). Products are free from free from fluoride, glycerine, SLS, parabens, gluten, GMO ingredients and alcohol.

I'll be the first to hold my hand up and say that switching to natural dental products feels the same as the struggles to finding natural deodorants. I personally would like to see natural oral care with backing from dentists. I feel it's important to be mindful about the long term health of my teeth.

I believe Oil Pulling is associated with Auyrveda, the traditional medicine system from India. Studies suggest that oil pulling can kill bacteria in the mouth and improve dental health. I've been trialling the Georganics Oil Pulling Mouthwash in English Peppermint. The suggested usage is 1-2 teaspoons of oil and swish around the mouth for five to twenty minutes. I think you have to work up to the twenty minute time frame and honestly I don't have the will power or time for it.

My mouthwashes have always been non-mainstream and I've used Sarakan for many years. Georganics Oil Pulling Mouthwash is a pleasant product but it doesn't have the punchy kick of peppermint which I enjoy. I'm certainly not a convert to oil pulling at the moment but maybe I need more time.

By Sarah London Organic Facial Oil featured on my blog last year so I'm familiar wit their products. I particularly like them as they formulated without using essential oils. It can be a little tricky to find fragrance free hair products so I was keen to try By Sarah London Organic Hair Oil. It is a unisex product and the formulation is a blend of argan oil, sea buckthorn oil and vitamin E. The write up for this product states "Sea Buckthorn Oil is a key active ingredient that helps to prevent dryness, thinning and split ends."

I have fine hair so I only use 2-3 drops of By Sarah London Organic Hair Oil on damp hair before styling. I did have to experiment with the quantity as there were times my hair felt a little weighed down which I attributed to this product. I'm hoping there are long term benefits to using hair oil but it's not easy to monitor. All I can say is my hair feels silky and smooth to the touch, with a reduction in the frizzy texture of my dry ends. At £23 for a 20ml bottle it's probably one of the most expensive hair oils I've used.

WooBamboo Toothbrush Green People Toothpaste
I bought Green People Minty Cool toothpaste and received a Woobamboo soft standard handle toothbrush free of charge. The funny thing is this brush is not sold on the website I ordered from so it really was a surprise extra.

The Woobamboo does look plain and boring next to my regular Wisdom Individual toothbrush but my inner geek secretly loves the natural design. The handle fits comfortably in my hand and is made from biodegradable and sustainably grown bamboo. I have always preferred toothbrushes without tongue scrapers as they seem to irritate my gums. This is not an issue with the Woobamboo toothbrush the bristles and head size feel comfortable in my mouth.

Woobamboo toothbrushes are available for Adults and Children with different options for handle size and bristles. I tracked down a UK stockists but the minor downside is the brushes will set you back £5.99 or you can opt for an Annual Subscription (4 brushes) £19.99. If you are based in US visit www.woobamboo.com

As for the Green People Toothpaste, I am sad to report I was not impressed. I don’t mind the lack of foam and slightly runny consistency but it does not leave my mouth feeling fresh. I like a mint flavour that packs a punch and this one does not hit the spot for me.

Turns out I'm a bigger dork than I first thought, tell me I am not the only one who gets excited about toothbrushes?

Dr Organic Aloe Vera Mouthwash
You may remember I mentioned using Sarakan mouthwash on a regular basis. The last time Holland & Barrett had a ‘buy one get one half price’ offer I picked up Dr Organic Aloe Vera Mouthwash. For those not familiar with the brand, Dr Organic have products suitable for vegetarians and vegans, they claim they are against animal testing and free from synthetic ingredients.

Obviously I am not a dentist so we have to trust that this mouthwash is doing as it claims - "A natural and protective formulation to help maintain strong, clean teeth, healthy gums and minty-fresh breath."

Sadly, I am not a fan of the flavour and prefer Sarakan. I struggle to describe the taste but it is not the minty flavour I enjoy. I do like that the bottle comes with a measuring cup. I always think it  could be unhygienic using the cap as surely there is the potential for saliva to pass back into the bottle.

Do you use a natural plant derived and free from mouthwash?
