Celebrating Seven Years of Sugarpuffish
What I have learnt in seven years of blogging

1. I've contemplated changing my blog name on more than one occasion over but I've never followed up on it because I can't come up with a creative alternative.

2. In the early days it was popular to leave comments with a back link to your blog. Seven years on this has slowly been killing me. When I upgraded my template I spent weeks removing all the dead links to blogs that no longer exist.

3. I still have a day job not connected to my blog and I'm not living the flat lay, chai latte Instagram life of dreams.

4. It's funny how quiet your inbox becomes once you dare to ask if you could be paid for blogging. These are the words you'll see most often "we don’t have the budget so we are just looking for people who would like to review xyz" or "we only offer payment to bloggers with a following of more than 10K on a single channel and a domain rating of 35 and over"

5. Some brands do respond negatively to constructive feedback. Thankfully only a few followed up with nasty emails and a character assassination whilst trying to discredit me across the internet - true story!

6. For every ten emails you'll receive only one that addresses you by your real name, I get messages with Hello There, Dear Blogger or Hi Sugar Puffish (like it's my first and last name!)

7. You'll be offered a "cool Infographic" on a weekly basis to share for FREE (big whoop!) on your blog which you promptly file in the trash folder.

8. For all the minor grumbles blogging has given me a creative outlet for my passions in life. I have met some wonderful people in the last seven years and several I see regularly outside of the virtual world.

I'd love to hear from readers, do you have any memorable moments? perhaps a favourite article on my site or a product you discovered through my reviews that you can no longer live without.

When I first hit the publish button four years ago I was completely clueless about blogging and to be fair I am still learning the ropes. People always ask why I started my blog and the honest answer is I was looking for a creative outlet and had spare time on my hands. I barely did any research but for that brief moment of looking I could not find anyone recommending products for sensitive skin, eczema and allergies and there did not appear to be any “Green” Bloggers.

I started writing for myself and I rarely thought about who might be reading because it scared me a little. As my readership grew I took confidence from them. Writing does not always come naturally and I often battle my own frustrations when I cannot find the right words. My blog has given me the opportunity to express myself but there are times when it becomes a burden on my shoulders. The desire to be honest has ended in a battle of words with Brands and Bloggers alike. I have cried and I have wanted to quit on more than one occasion.

To begin with the blogging world was a little alienating but there was interest in what I had to offer and slowly I started to make friends. I no longer feel like the odd one out for trying to convince people to ditch shopping on the high street. In the past four years, I have seen my niche Green Community grow considerably and finally I found bloggers who just understand me and my desire to have a “cleaner & greener” beauty regime.

My blog gives me a sense of achievement on an otherwise dull and dreary day. I may cringe at the early posts but I'm incredibly proud of how Sugarpuffish looks in 2015. Who knows what the future will hold but thank you for joining me on this journey, for supporting me when things got difficult and for motivating me to continue.

Remember the Field Trip Tour of July? Once that was over, Rachel (All Natural Aspirations) decided we needed another gathering and set the wheels in motion for a meet up in Reading. The plan was lunch, shopping and lots of chatting about beauty and learning more about each other. Somewhere along the line Jen (Jen's Green Skincare) and I were roped in to help put together a goody bag for the day. We pooled our contacts and honestly expected to get told to go away but the support we received was overwhelming. We under estimated the generosity and so yes we went slightly overboard and perhaps ended up with the biggest bag ever seen in blogger history, oops! :D

I'd like to personally thank all the brands we contacted between the three of us. I specifically reached out to my favourites as I wanted to give the other ladies a chance to try brands that I personally love. A huge thank you to - Aedos, Bathing BeautyBalmologyBeeutiful, Frank Honest Snacking, Fresh Therapies, Niki's Balms, Nom FoodsPure ThoughtsRebel Kitchen, Suti

The goody bags were organised in secret which was great fun and wonderful to see everyone's reactions. I think it's fair to say that Bodhi & Birch stole the show on the day. I did capture the moment on camera but since my footage is identical to Rachel's I'm unsure whether to bored everyone with uploading it. I had a wonderful day in the company of some amazing bloggers. Thank you to all for your love and support. I can not think of a better way to spend a Sunday, wish we could do it every week.
