odylique timeless rose moisturiser
(gifted PR and affiliate link)

We are surrounded with beauty innovations but Rose is a timeless ingredient, an old faithful that many would argue you can't beat. It's a powerful extract proven to be toning, moisturising, antibacterial, therapeutic, antioxidant and anti inflammatory.

Odylique Timeless Rose Moisturiser is a luxurious, soothing and regenerative day cream. Of course it's suitable for most skin types (combination, normal-dry, mature) but may particularly appeal to those with sensitive skin, including people prone to rosacea. Rose is calming on redness and promotes skin restoration. The formulation also include rosehip, sea buckthorn, aloe vera, shea butter, jojoba and coconut. These are ingredients which soothe, hydrate and protect our skin.

My Skincare Routine for Dry, Sensitive, Mature Skin prone to Eczema
(some of the items featured have been purchased by me but I have linked to past reviews where product many have originally been a Gifted PR sample)

I haven't updated you on my skincare routine in a while so let me share what I am using in lockdown. This is a good time to use up products I have laying around and a great excuse for additional pampering sessions, I'm now someone who uses face masks on the regular. If you are new here then to recap my skin type is prone to eczema, dry and sensitive (I have allergies) and I'm 43.

Let's start with cleansing which I do morning and evenings. I've been trialing the Lucy Bee Reviving Cleansing Cream but also using up Handmade Naturals Face Cleansing Oil. This cleansing oil is a long time favourite of mine. It has some super lovely ingredients and smells divine however it is free from essential oil allergens. Next up I will moisturise and in the mornings I'm using Green People Anti-Aging 24 Hour Cream. I think I'm on my third tube of this now. It just seems to suit my skin really well at the moment. I've really struggled finding fragrance free creams so glad this ones is working out for me. In the evenings I tend to apply oils so I'm currently using Myroo Super Boost Buriti. This is one of three Super Boost serums and I have loved them all. Buriti oil is great for protecting and brightening the skin, it defends against environmental stressors and is the richest source of beta-carotene.

Additional treatments over and above cleansing and moisturising don't tend to be a regular part of my routine. As I said lockdown has changed that and I want to use up products that were otherwise being neglected. I'm working my way through Odylique 3 in 1 Maca mask and Nature's Kitchen Gentle Care Face Mask. Both are great products which I enjoy using and seem to suit my skin very well. I always have Odylique Spot on Serum in my collection, it's a great all rounder for little emergencies so this often gets used on hormonal pimples, cuts and bites. I thought I'd throw in a mention for my Madara City CC cream because it adds some benefits and makes me feel human again thanks to the added tint. The SPF is useful for protecting the skin for brief moments outside. I would apply a separate sun cream if I was spending longer in the garden or at the beach, Green People was my go to last summer.

What are the best oils for your skin type?
I’m always writing about facial oils because they support my sensitive skin. I cleanse and moisturise with them. When I review oils I often mention that the key to choosing the right one is to understand the ingredients. Often people with oily/blemish prone skin shy away from facial oil but you can benefit from them.  Mainstream products aimed at acne are often harsh with ingredients that strip the skin making it difficult to manage so you are left needing re-balance the damage. On the other hand dry skin needs an extra boost and supplementing your face cream with a serum can help replenish moisture. I’ve chosen what I believe are some of the most popular ingredients to look out for but there are many more.

Estelle & Thild Super Bioactive Repairing Oil Complex, Age Control Serum, Lifting Eye Serum
You may remember I had been using some Estelle & Thild products and was keen to explore more from the range. I accepted an opportunity to trial products from the *Super Bioactive Advance Anti-Age range. I have been using the Repairing Oil Complex, Age Control Serum and Lifting Eye Serum. In case you are wondering I am forty this year so consider myself the target audience for these products. I will say I am not a fan of the term anti-ageing and believe we should embrace growing old but I accept that not everyone feels the same as me. I read an article on cosmeticsdesign-europe.com that suggested "age management" was a better term.

Balance Me Intensive Wrinkle Repair Cream & Essential Care Organic Avocado Replenishing Cream
Mini reviews for you today as I have been using up some samples which were passed on to me from Ria of Naturia Beauty.

I confess that Balance Me products never seem to hit the spot for me but I was still curious to try the Intensive Wrinkle Repair Cream (10ml). This cream is described as “a super rich cream for drier and +35 skins to firm and lift whilst visibly improving the signs of aging.” I am over 35 so the target market for this cream although I am not overly concerned about ageing and wrinkles. I did find this cream rich in texture which suited my dry skin and I did not find it greasy. Balance Me do have a good free from ingredient policy and this product has a lengthy list of natural extracts and essential oils. For me, it is too heavy on these ingredients and I would not purchase a full size because the fragrance was not to my personal taste. You have to remember a lot of my facial creams are unscented (in order to avoid the allergens in essential oils) so it can be a shock to the system to apply something with a distinctive scent.

You all know one of my favourite brands is Essential Care (now known as Odylique) so I was keen to try the Organic Avocado Replenishing Cream (15ml). It is also aimed at dry and mature skin. In comparison to Balance Me, the Essential Care cream is thinner in consistency. I certainly enjoyed using it and felt that my skin responded well to the ingredients. I am sceptical whether it would be suitable for me during the winter months. I know avocado is a super ingredient but I cannot shake the reassurance I get with a thick textured cream. It’s a mind over matter issue. The fragrance blend is lavender and frankincense but sadly it is not my cup of tea. Of course, Essential Care does have an excellent free from policy, products are certified organic with the Soil Association and this cream is suitable for Vegans.

Even though I would not purchase full sizes, I do feel that both creams are worth recommending based on ingredient formulations. I can not deny these are good moisturisers but sadly they simply do not suit my taste when it comes to scent.

Review Five Natural and Organic Brands with Rosehip Facial Oil
(contains affiliate links)

Peachykeen Organics who were originally featured in this review have ceased trading so I'm editing this post.

Rosehip Oil remains one of my favourite ingredients to this very day (now 2020!). This liquid gold is rich in fatty acids and antioxidants which are integral for cell and tissue regeneration in the skin. Rosehip is great for maintaining the overall condition of your skin, it's perfect for dehydrated, mature skin types. It will moisturise, treat wrinkles, brighten, even out skin tone, firm skin and fade scarring. I tested the latter out when I had key hole surgery a few years ago. I applied when the wounds were healed (with the doctors sign off). I've been very happy with the outcome, my scars are not easily visible and this has been commented on in check ups. I'll add that having delicate skin prone to eczema has caused me to easily bruise and visibly scar after spots or cuts. Rosehip oil has really made a difference in my skin over the years.

Here are five recommended brands that sell Rosehip Oil

A'kin Certified Organic Rosehip Oil - this is a best seller for Australian brand, Akin and one of the first oils I ever tried

Alucia Organics Certified Organic CO2 Rosehip Oil - most methods of extraction are "cold pressed" but Alucia is different they use state-of-the-art supercritical CO2 extraction

Conscious Skincare Rosehip Oil (Cold Pressed) - whilst others use glass bottles and pipettes, this is packaged in eco friendly aluminium EPA lined bottle with 100% biodegradable paper label

Fushi Organic Rosehip Seed Oil - Fushi fresh-pressed beauty oils are sourced directly from growers. They're unrefined, organic, pure and cold-pressed to preserve their efficiency.

Sukin Organic Rose Hip Oil - another famous Australian brand, describes this one as - "Our Certified Organic Rosehip Oil is our holy grail, multi use product"
