By Sarah London Organic Hair Oil and Georganics Oil Pulling Mouthwash
(Gifted/prices correct at time of publication)

Georganics is a brand I've known for a while and they recently launched onto Love Lula's site. They are a natural, sustainable and ethical oral care brand. Georganics pride themselves on being zero waste, plastic free, biodegradable, vegan and cruelty free (certified by PETA). Products are free from free from fluoride, glycerine, SLS, parabens, gluten, GMO ingredients and alcohol.

I'll be the first to hold my hand up and say that switching to natural dental products feels the same as the struggles to finding natural deodorants. I personally would like to see natural oral care with backing from dentists. I feel it's important to be mindful about the long term health of my teeth.

I believe Oil Pulling is associated with Auyrveda, the traditional medicine system from India. Studies suggest that oil pulling can kill bacteria in the mouth and improve dental health. I've been trialling the Georganics Oil Pulling Mouthwash in English Peppermint. The suggested usage is 1-2 teaspoons of oil and swish around the mouth for five to twenty minutes. I think you have to work up to the twenty minute time frame and honestly I don't have the will power or time for it.

My mouthwashes have always been non-mainstream and I've used Sarakan for many years. Georganics Oil Pulling Mouthwash is a pleasant product but it doesn't have the punchy kick of peppermint which I enjoy. I'm certainly not a convert to oil pulling at the moment but maybe I need more time.

By Sarah London Organic Facial Oil featured on my blog last year so I'm familiar wit their products. I particularly like them as they formulated without using essential oils. It can be a little tricky to find fragrance free hair products so I was keen to try By Sarah London Organic Hair Oil. It is a unisex product and the formulation is a blend of argan oil, sea buckthorn oil and vitamin E. The write up for this product states "Sea Buckthorn Oil is a key active ingredient that helps to prevent dryness, thinning and split ends."

I have fine hair so I only use 2-3 drops of By Sarah London Organic Hair Oil on damp hair before styling. I did have to experiment with the quantity as there were times my hair felt a little weighed down which I attributed to this product. I'm hoping there are long term benefits to using hair oil but it's not easy to monitor. All I can say is my hair feels silky and smooth to the touch, with a reduction in the frizzy texture of my dry ends. At £23 for a 20ml bottle it's probably one of the most expensive hair oils I've used.

Repurchase Products of 2013 featuring Desert Essence, Sarakan, Naturtint, Giovanni
If you have been following my empty posts you will have notice there are a number of products I have repurchased time and time again throughout the year. I thought it might be nice to summarise them into one blog post.

Mint Thé Refreshing Bath & Shower Therapy - my original Bodhi review was published in 2012 and my love for their products has never ceased. I was introduced to Mint Thé when I received it as a GWP, it wasn't a fragrance I thought I would enjoy but it took me by surprise. I adore the fresh minty scent and this has been a repurchase and on my Christmas/Birthday wish lists ever since.

Sarakan Mouthwash - not a sexy product I know but I do like this mouthwash, it has a pleasant taste and it helps keep my mouth healthy.

Desert Essence Red Raspberry Conditioner - I experimented with a couple of products from this hair care range and the one that stuck with me is the red raspberry conditioner. It leaves my hair silky, smooth and soft but never greasy or weighed down.

Essential Care Gentle Herb Shampoo - I think it is fair to say this is now my Holy Grail. I spent many years searching for a shampoo that did not irritate my scalp but also gave me the results I wanted. It took a while to get use to the low foaming but now I can not be without it.

Everyday Minerals Semi Matte Foundation - at the start of 2013 I wrote about how I was finally going to ditch high street foundation. I fell in love with Everyday Minerals and I've used it every day since.

Giovanni Ultra Chic Flat Iron Styling Mist - once I discovered this product I never looked back. I often buy in bulk as I don't want to run out. Only issue I have is the website that stocks this is not the greatest and I've had issues with orders. I wish it was available elsewhere in the UK.

Naturtint - I'm cheating with this one as I've been using for many years but this is the hair dye that works for me so I have stuck with it. I like the colour options, how it doesn't make me want to pass out with toxic fumes and it appears to leave my hair in reasonable condition even after all these years of colouring.

Deep Steep - You are probably wondering why I left this one out of the picture. I frequently purchase from the brand but I always try something different. I think the body wash is probably the one item I have bought several times this year.

Let me know what products you have repeat purchased this year.

Here are my empties for the month of May. I did not feel like getting in front of the camera this month, editing can be time consuming when you have other things to do. Sorry if that disappoints anyone.

Sarakan Mouthwash – a staple product for me and a regular in my empty posts

Blue Labelle Cleansing Oil (Dry or Sensitive Skin) – I have really enjoyed using this and will definitely repurchase in the future once I have finished up a stash of cleansers I have.

Essential Care Gentle Herb Shampoo – this product took me by surprise and I really enjoyed using it. I received compliments on my hair which is always nice to hear. I will repurchase again.

Faith in Nature Intensive Moisturising Cream – I was sent this to review. It’s a good budget friendly moisturiser. My boyfriend ended up using this and when he ran out he appeared to be disappointed, put it this way, he doesn't rate the replacement I gave him.

Salcura DermaSpray (gentle) – a staple product for me to have in my collection. I find it very useful to soothe itching eczema when skin is feeling hot and sensitive. I will continue to repurchase this product for the foreseeable future

Anita Grant Virgin Mango Butter Coconut Whip – a nice product which I enjoyed using as I love rich body butters. I wouldn't repurchase this as it isn't to my taste when it comes to the scent but that does not stop me recommending it to others.

Natural Hero Hot Ginger Muscle Rub – I do have permanent damage in my shoulder from a car accident I had 8 years ago. My injury flares up now and then so I am always looking for natural ways to treat pain. This is an interesting product but I don’t think it did anything for me.

What was in your empty stash this month? Any thoughts on the product featured in this post?

Sugarpuffish What's in my bin? February Empties 2013
I am getting good at collecting my empty bottles. Drives me a little crazy having them sitting around so now I have a dedicated collection point (aka a paper bag). Once again these are products that I have been using for months and they came to an end during February.

Sarakan mouthwash - this last featured in my December empties. It's a product I repeat purchase.

Dr Organic Pomegranate Cream - another regular in empty posts, I really love this cream and have lost count how many I have purchased.

Green People Sensitive Shower/Bath Gel - this came in a gift set I received at Christmas. It's a nice body wash, doesn't have a fragrance as it's from the Sensitive range. The main promoted ingredients are aloe vera, marshmallow and yucca. I recommend and I would purchase a full size.

Intelligent Nurients Harmonic Shampoo - this is one of the cleanest brands on the market when it comes to natural products. There is a lot of hype with this shampoo. Sadly, it didn't live up to my expectations and I really struggled to enjoy the product. This is a trial size, it doesn't come cheap £8 for 60ml

Giovanni Flat Iron Mist - I have liked this product and it leaves my hair feeling soft. When I reached the end of the bottle I have noticed my hair remains in good condition so I believe it does a good job at heat protecting. I'm not going to repurchase at this time because I want to try one from Desert Essence.

Sweet Cecily's Almond & Avocado Cream - a sample I was sent for review. A nice cream from a lovely company.

Conscious Skincare Face Wash & Night cream - these were samples I was sent for review. I enjoyed using them and the company has great ingredients and are eco friendly.

There are two products not featured in the photograph which I used up. They are Pai Cleanser and a Dr Bronner Solid Soap.

December Empties featuring Balmology, Nourish London, Naturtint, Organic Surge
It’s that time again for me to blog my trash. Pictured above are my empty bottles from December.

Organic Surge Sugared Almond Shower Gel - I’ve enjoyed using this shower gel, it doesn’t dry out my skin, has a delicate scent and not too expensive. I will probably repurchase at some point once I get through the stash Santa gave me.

Jane Maddern Hand Wash - this is a nice hand wash, with a pleasant scent and non drying.

Sophyto Tocotrienol Super Skin Concentrate - this was a sample bottle that I have finally used up. A little goes a long way. It’s a nice product but the price puts me off repurchasing however, I do recommend if you can afford it.

Macadamia Healing Oil Treatment – I have been using up this product, it's left over from my pre-green stash. I won't be re-purchasing as I'm seeking a better brand with kinder ingredients.

Balmology Comfort Balm - it’s taken 12 months to use this up as I need very little plus I tested other balms in between but I always come back to this. It’s perfect for my eczema and I highly recommend. I have already started my second jar of this balm.

Nourish London Cleanser - A nice product but not suited to me so I would not repurchase.

Aloe Dent Whitening Toothpaste – This was a gift with purchase. I was pleasantly surprised as this was my first experience of natural plant based toothpaste. It has a pleasant minty taste and I would consider buying the full size.

Unique Nature Shampoo - a nice shampoo that I picked up at TK Maxx. Worth a try if you can track it down.

Sarakan Mouthwash - I have been buying this mouthwash for a year may be longer. It’s a firm favourite for me and I will continue to repurchase.

Naturtint - not pictured here as I forgot but I am still colouring my hair every 6 to 8 weeks. I am trying to go longer between applications to limit my exposure to dyes. I'm very happy with Naturtint hair colourant so I will continue to purchase.

Dr Organic Aloe Vera Mouthwash
You may remember I mentioned using Sarakan mouthwash on a regular basis. The last time Holland & Barrett had a ‘buy one get one half price’ offer I picked up Dr Organic Aloe Vera Mouthwash. For those not familiar with the brand, Dr Organic have products suitable for vegetarians and vegans, they claim they are against animal testing and free from synthetic ingredients.

Obviously I am not a dentist so we have to trust that this mouthwash is doing as it claims - "A natural and protective formulation to help maintain strong, clean teeth, healthy gums and minty-fresh breath."

Sadly, I am not a fan of the flavour and prefer Sarakan. I struggle to describe the taste but it is not the minty flavour I enjoy. I do like that the bottle comes with a measuring cup. I always think it  could be unhygienic using the cap as surely there is the potential for saliva to pass back into the bottle.

Do you use a natural plant derived and free from mouthwash?

6 June 2012

Mouthwash is not a particularly glamour product. Until about two years ago it was not a product I used on a regular basis. I vaguely recall bad press about mouthwash when I was a child. It was to do with alcohol content and whether mouthwash damaged teeth.

When a dentist recommended I should use a mouthwash I cringed.  Without thinking about it I tried one of the well known brands.  Aside from ingredients, the taste was disgusting, my mouth stung and the smell made me almost pass out (I have dental phobia and it reminded me of the dentist chair).  I ended up having a browse in Holland & Barrett and buying SarakanTwo years on it remains a staple part of my dental routine.

Sarakan is free from alcohol, fluoride, artificial colours, parabens, it is unsweetened and suitable for Vegans.  The British Dental Health Foundation has accredited Sarakan. It is flavoured with peppermint, clove and geranium.  I find the taste pleasant and it does not sting my mouth.  It is an anti-plaque mouthwash containing extract of Salvadora Persica which is known as the toothbrush tree.

If you wish to cut back on certain ingredients then I would recommend this mouthwash.  I trust that it is working but obviously I can’t prove that to you.  I do notice (and this is gross) when I spit out the mouthwash there are pieces of food so I feel it is clearing out what I miss with my toothbrush. Sarakan also manufacture a toothpaste.  Both products can be purchased  online and alternatively pop along to Holland & Barrett.
