Review Sukin Paw Paw Ointment
(PR sample, affiliate link marked *, price correct at time of publication)

If you delve into the archives you’ll know that I declared my love for paw paw balm from the start. I wrote about three different brands and during that time my favourite closed their business. I guess over the years other multi-purpose products came my way and I never re-purchased. When Sukin, a brand I already enjoy using, came to me with a press release for their new paw paw ointment it certainly sparked my interest.

Review Lyonsleaf Zinc & Calendula Cream
(Gifted/Lyonsleaf affiliate link)

Lyonsleaf is a company I am more than happy to support and I’ve be trialling the new Zinc and Calendula cream. This product is intended as a nappy cream but the ingredients can be beneficial for those with sensitive skin issues. You can think of Lyonsleaf Zinc and Calendula cream as a natural alternative to Sudacrem and it can be used in similar ways. Lyonsleaf's cream is suitable for skin that needs some TLC and protecting from moisture damage.

It is suggested that Zinc Oxide helps repair skin and people report that it works well for acne, rosacea, dermatitis and rashes. Many of you know that I experience seborrhoeic dermatitis on my chest (sometimes face) so I was curious whether Lyonsleaf Zinc and Calendula cream could offer me a solution to the discomfort of itchiness. I’ve had moderate success so far in conjunction with other products which I’ve been using. The cream has a smooth texture and a little goes a long way. On application the zinc can cause a white cast to your complexion but it disappears as long as you massage well into your skin. I envisage that this may be more noticeable on darker skin tones. I'm pleased to report that when applied at bedtime by the morning I have experienced relief of symptoms. The inflamed redness associated with seborrhoeic dermatitis has calmed and itchiness has reduced.

The Zinc and Calendula cream is also free from essential oils so no need to worry about those pesky allergens. The formulation is suitable for vegetarians but not vegans as it does contain beeswax. I have the 30ml jar which is the perfect size for pockets and handbags plus a great way to test out the product at a lower price point. You’ll need to use a little spatula to get the cream out of the jar as it can be tricky with fingers.

I think Lyonsleaf Zinc and Calendula cream is certainly worth trying whether on a baby’s bottom or on you but what do you think?

Suvana Organic Paw Paw & Honey Balm
(affiliate link marked *)

I've mentioned before my number one hero product is papaya (paw paw) balm. It's a fantastic multi purpose product and one I would not be without. My favourite brand is no longer manufactured so last year I switched to Pure Papaya Ointment. My only complaint with Pure Papaya is the strong fragrance. Not an issue on my body but I began to dislike on my lips. I decided to buy Suvana paw paw and honey balm which is organic, natural and free from mineral oil. It has a very delicate hint of honey which is not intrusive.

I would describe this Suvana balm as having a silky texture and doesn't feel sticky on skin. You can pretty much use this anywhere for a variety of aliments. I often use it to treat any sudden itchy eczema patches. Out of all the multi purpose balms I own, this is the one that stays in my handbag because of the convenient packaging.

I know Lucas Pawpaw Ointment is very popular at the moment but please be aware that it is a petroleum based product and that's not an ingredient that I feel comfortable using. If you'd like to purchase pawpaw (papaya) ointments visit www.pawpawshop.co.uk or *Content Beauty & Wellbeing

Inlight Organic Skincare Ointments
UPDATE - this product has been discontinued, other ointments are available, the Turmeric & Calendula Relief Balm may be of interest

Inlight Organic Skincare is an award winning brand offering natural products free any synthetic ingredients and preservatives. The range has been developed by Dr Mariano Spiezia, medical doctor, homeopath and herbalist. I accepted an offer from Inlight to review a product and I chose to review the Organic Ecz-Easy for eczema. It's probably fair to say that I imagine I'm not the only person with eczema who is always searching for the holy grail product. We are on a constant mission to tame our inflamed skin once and for all. At the moment I alternate between Balmology Comfort Balm and Salcura. These work extremely well in managing my eczema so I am judging Ecz-easy against these two products.

Ecz-easy has a very interesting ingredient list with olive oil, sunflower oil, castor oil, beeswax, evening primrose oil, black cumin, marigold, carrot, plantain, mallow, lavender, liquorice, chickweed, burdock, turmeric, patchouli, jojoba & rose oil. This certainly is a formulation with anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and healing properties. The scent of this ointment is intriguing and reminds me of our spice cupboard, a strong herbal scent with top notes of black pepper and lavender. I asked my family to take a sniff and it did receive mixed reviews so on that basis it's a love it or hate it scent. The consistency of this ointment is soft but not thick like a balm and turns oily on contact with skin. I find it sinks into quickly and without a greasy residue. I have not noticed any staining on my clothes.

I currently have a long standing flare up of eczema across my chest and the area around my bra strap has been driving me bonkers with itchiness. From first application I noticed I was not scratching and with continual use the itching virtually disappeared. The condition of my skin and eczema has improved and redness has greatly reduced. The first couple of weeks I used Ecz-easy twice a day and then reduced the amount of usage to test whether my skin was reliant on the ointment. I still have some visible eczema but I am coping with less applications of the cream which I judge to be a good sign of how well the ointment is working for me. This patch of eczema is stubborn and nothing makes it disappear but I am happy that Ecz-easy takes away the desire to scratch. I am going to continue using this ointment and hopefully my skin will keep improving or at the least remain under control.
