Review Dee's Organics Soothe Facial Elixir and Petals & Clay Cleanser
(Gifted)

I've come to know Dee's Organics Skincare through the Free From Skincare Awards and Dee has also been in touch over social media. To give you a bit of background, Dee is passionate about skincare and has been working in reflexology and aromatherapy since 2003. She is also a Formula Botanica graduate so you know you should be in good hands with these products.

Dee's Organics Soothe Facial Elixir was the first product I tried. I was attracted to the beautiful formulation which includes prickly pear, chamomile and calendula. You'd naturally assume that this facial serum would be full of essential oil (and their allergens) with Dee's background in aromatherapy. I was of course delighted not to see that dreaded word 'linalool' on the label.

I find the Soothe Facial Elixir to be a gorgeous lightweight golden oil which feels soothing on my skin. As the name suggests Dee has this product in her collection because she has considered the needs of customers with sensitive and rosacea prone skin. Its natural fragrance is very mild so it comforts but never overpowers the senses. Something I appreciate as I easily sneeze at fragrance in skincare. This facial oil is suitable for all, it can be used whenever you choose and it's suitable as a makeup primer or post shave oil.

Dee has kindly adapted the Petals & Clay cleanser to suit my allergies but its original formulation contains lavender, chamomile and calendula flowers blended with brightening hibiscus and vitamin C. These are combined with kaolin clay, coconut powder and collodial oatmeal to draw out impurities and soothe sensitive skin. Powdered products are interesting to work with. For this cleanser it is recommended to add a few drops of water to half a teaspoon of powder in the palm of your hand and combine together. It can be a little messy but equally quite fun to use because it's unique from other cleansers. I image it is the hibiscus which gives the earthy red tones to this cleanser.

I recommend visiting Dee's Organics website to explore all of the products available. If you are in the local area you can also book bespoke facials and reflexology.

odylique timeless rose moisturiser
(gifted PR and affiliate link)

We are surrounded with beauty innovations but Rose is a timeless ingredient, an old faithful that many would argue you can't beat. It's a powerful extract proven to be toning, moisturising, antibacterial, therapeutic, antioxidant and anti inflammatory.

Odylique Timeless Rose Moisturiser is a luxurious, soothing and regenerative day cream. Of course it's suitable for most skin types (combination, normal-dry, mature) but may particularly appeal to those with sensitive skin, including people prone to rosacea. Rose is calming on redness and promotes skin restoration. The formulation also include rosehip, sea buckthorn, aloe vera, shea butter, jojoba and coconut. These are ingredients which soothe, hydrate and protect our skin.

Introduction to Naturally Tribal Skincare
(this article is not sponsored)

During this difficult time I am offering to blog about small businesses that are still trying to trade. This idea was triggered when I was looking for Birthday gifts. April is a month of celebrations in my family and we are all spread out across the country so I can't hand deliver parcels to doorsteps. I would like to surprise loved ones with gifts for as long as I possibly can. I appreciate that non-essential shopping has been controversial however indie brands are self employed and trying to maintain an income under difficult circumstances. If I can support them in some small way through my website then I'd like to help.

Review Joanna Naturals Harmony Facial Oil
(Gifted PR sample)

I love serums and facial oils and I've written many reviews over the years. For me, facial oil is a key part to my skincare routine. I use them for cleansing and moisturising. I believe the key to finding the correct one is to know what your skin needs and focus on understanding ingredients. I've researched which ingredients are recommended for dry, sensitive and eczema prone skin and from this I know exactly what to look for when choosing a product. Top of my list is rosehip, plum kernel, jojoba, seabuckthorn and apricot but there are many more.

I had the pleasure of testing Joanna Naturals Harmony Facial oil in the formulation stages so it's lovely to be able to write about the final product. Jo is the founder and she's an aromatherapist with a passion for skin health. Harmony has been formulation for very sensitive and reactive skin so it's completely free from essentials and fragrance. It's suitable for all skin types but ideal for mature damaged skin. For any reader not familiar with me, I am over forty with damage from dermatitis so I feel able to review the product with experience. I always find it a bold move for brands to step away from essential oils when they are the core to their range and passion. I know many people enjoy aromatherapy but essential oils do contain naturally occurring allergens so care is needed with some problematic skin types.

Harmony has a lovely blend of ingredients which include some personal favourites - rosehip, argan, raspberry seed, jojoba, pomegranate and kiwi to name just a few. The formulation has a nice balance on the skin so it doesn't feel overload with greasy heaviness. You can adjust the dosage according to your personal needs and that something I favour in an oil blend. My skin bounces somewhere between dry and parched of all moisture with flakiness and eczema patches. It's a fickle one to please at the best of times but Harmony can assist with restoring and repairing.

Harmony is just one of ten oils from Joanna Naturals so depending on your skin type I am sure you can find an ideal match. I'm often approached by readers who experience rosacea so you'll be pleased to hear that the range includes "So Calm" which is blended for this skin type.

It's a short and sweet write up but I feel more than happy to recommend Joanna Naturals based from my experience.

Natural Skincare for Sensitive Skin prone to Rosacea
The cause of Rosacea isn’t fully understood, it can be confused with eczema, it’s mainly seen on the face but sometimes will affect other areas of the body.. It can be more common in woman especially those with pale skin. Symptoms include flushing, burning, stinging, redness, spots and visible blood vessels. It’s believed that some things can worsen symptoms during flair up; these include spicy foods, hot drinks, alcohol, extreme temperatures, sun exposure, anxiety and stress. Treatments from the doctor may include antibiotics and topical creams but there are self care options.

Review Lyonsleaf Zinc & Calendula Cream
(Gifted/Lyonsleaf affiliate link)

Lyonsleaf is a company I am more than happy to support and I’ve be trialling the new Zinc and Calendula cream. This product is intended as a nappy cream but the ingredients can be beneficial for those with sensitive skin issues. You can think of Lyonsleaf Zinc and Calendula cream as a natural alternative to Sudacrem and it can be used in similar ways. Lyonsleaf's cream is suitable for skin that needs some TLC and protecting from moisture damage.

It is suggested that Zinc Oxide helps repair skin and people report that it works well for acne, rosacea, dermatitis and rashes. Many of you know that I experience seborrhoeic dermatitis on my chest (sometimes face) so I was curious whether Lyonsleaf Zinc and Calendula cream could offer me a solution to the discomfort of itchiness. I’ve had moderate success so far in conjunction with other products which I’ve been using. The cream has a smooth texture and a little goes a long way. On application the zinc can cause a white cast to your complexion but it disappears as long as you massage well into your skin. I envisage that this may be more noticeable on darker skin tones. I'm pleased to report that when applied at bedtime by the morning I have experienced relief of symptoms. The inflamed redness associated with seborrhoeic dermatitis has calmed and itchiness has reduced.

The Zinc and Calendula cream is also free from essential oils so no need to worry about those pesky allergens. The formulation is suitable for vegetarians but not vegans as it does contain beeswax. I have the 30ml jar which is the perfect size for pockets and handbags plus a great way to test out the product at a lower price point. You’ll need to use a little spatula to get the cream out of the jar as it can be tricky with fingers.

I think Lyonsleaf Zinc and Calendula cream is certainly worth trying whether on a baby’s bottom or on you but what do you think?

Sukin Sensitive Cleansing Lotion
(Gifted PR Sample)

Sukin is an Australian brand that has been on my radar for some time. Sadly pretty much the entire range of products contains tangerine so I am not able to try them. However, they have launched a Sensitive Skin range specifically targeting those of us with skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, rosacea and dermatitis. This range does not contain tangerine so I accepted an offer to try the Cleansing Lotion pictured above.

Sukin products are Vegan and free from sulphates, synthetic fragrances, animal derivatives, harsh detergents, petro-chemicals, artificial colours, triethanolamine, mineral oils and parabens. The sensitive range consists of cleansing lotion, cleansing gel and moisturiser. These products are full of lovely ingredients like aloe vera, chamomile, rosehip, cucumber, shea butter, avocado and jojoba. You may have notice from the picture above that Sukin do use Phenoxyethanol which I know some of my readers prefer to avoid.

I have been testing the cleansing lotion for a couple of weeks. I know you all like to hear I have been testing something for months but I knew straight away this cleanser was perfect for me. The consistency falls between a cleansing milk and cream. What I mean by this is it's not runny like Nourish which I tried last month but it's not as heavy as Tropic. I use it morning and evenings. It feels lovely on my skin and you can easily massage across the face. I opt to remove with a damp muslin cloth but you could use cotton pads or rinse with water as it works well in the shower. I find it removes my foundation which is evident on my cloth. The fragrance is gentle and sugary from vanilla. It just suits me perfectly. I have a little patch of eczema on my chin and I have not notice any added irritation when using this cleanser.

You can buy Sukin skincare in the UK from a variety of retailers including cressuk.com and the prices are very reasonable. I'm happy to recommend Sukin products to you as I can see myself buying this Sensitive Cleansing Lotion when it runs out.

Five Natural and Organic Cleansers for Skin Prone to Eczema
If your skin is prone to eczema flare ups you'll know how tricky it can be to manage your skincare routine. The key for me is making sure my skin doesn't break out in the first place and I do this by taking great interest in the ingredients in my skincare. At a minimum I choose to avoid foaming agents (SLS/SLES) and fragrance as these are definitely my triggers.

Here are five cleanser which are free from fragrance and SLS and come with my personal recommendation.

Bodhi & Birch Avo Bao Cleansing Balm - although not specifically tailored to skin prone to eczema, it's an amazing cleansing balm which I found effective and did not trigger irritation. This balm is formulated with essential oils but does contain nutrient rich superfoods Avocado and Baobab, Plum Kernel, Green Coffee, Hemp and Spirulina.

Green People Scent Free Cleanser & Makeup Remover - a creamy cleanser which is formulated with Organic Shea butter, Squalane from Olive, Jojoba esters & Calendula, it leaves skin feeling soft and retains the moisture balance so you shouldn't feel dry or tight after cleansing.

Handmade Naturals Plum & Avocado Face Cleanser - this is a gentle and nourishing cream cleanser, no essential oils but a faint scent of marzipan from the plum kernel oil.

Lyonsleaf Unfragranced Beauty Balm - Lyonsleaf has a collection of fragrance free products including this balm cleanser, it contains raw shea butter, macadamia nut oil, jojoba, vitamin E and calendula (home grown on the Lyonleaf farm). This is rich and hydrating which may help combat dryness.

Skincare with Compassion Pure & Gentle Milk Cleanser - formulated to help soften and protect skin from dryness, ingredients include Rosehip, Sweet Almond and Kukui
