review Nature's Kitchen Face and Body Milk Smoothie and Berry Beautiful Skin Polish
(Gifted)

I'm gravitating towards Nature's Kitchen Skincare at the moment because I have realised many of their products are free from linalool (one of my allergies). It's a brand that takes me back to my teenage years when I used to spend all my money in The Body Shop. I think it has a similar vibes because of it's fruity and chocolate products.

Nature's Kitchen Chocolate & Vanilla Face and Body Milk Smoothie is a new addition to the product range. The fun and novelty factor is sure to win over everyone. Packaging is super cute and recyclable, it also comes with a smoothie recipe. I will say I am always cautious of large glass jars in the bathroom so I am mindful of this as you don't want to drop it. Nature's Kitchen Milk Smoothie is for use in the shower and use it as you would a body wash. It took me a couple of shakes to get the smoothie out of the jar as it's a thick 'milkshake' consistency. The aroma is pleasant and not overpowering with gentle hints of cocoa and vanilla. I found this product was best applied with my hands as it didn't work quite so well with a sponge. The smoothie feels silky smooth and washes off easily.

"Our Chocolate & Vanilla Face & Body Milk Smoothie Wash has been created to indulge your skin and your senses to leave you with super soft, healthy skin, all day long."

My skin did feel smooth and soft after leaving the shower but sadly that feeling didn't last all day as my dry and flaky skin was noticeable later on. I wasn't expecting any miracles from this product and I honestly chose it for the novelty factor. It's innovative and attractive so I would certainly enjoy gifting but I don't feel its the new 'must have' in my routine. If chocolate & vanilla doesn't appeal to your senses then Strawberry & Cranberry or Banana & Coconut Milk Smoothies are available. Ingredients are vegan so do not be put off by the name 'milk smoothie' if you are allergic to milk (as I am!).

As I mentioned I have flaky skin at the moment so it felt like a good opportunity to try Nature's Kitchen Berry Beautiful Skin Polish. Exfoliators are not part of my daily skincare routine as my skin is often too sensitive but I usually find a use for them when the season changes from winter to spring. This scrub uses natural bamboo cane and red berry fruit seeds plus extracts of red grapes, cherry, raspberry, blackcurrant, blueberry, pomegranate, strawberry, cranberry, acai and goji berries to gently buff skin. It's a fluid consistency with very small granules. As someone with sensitive skin this is a gentle exfoliator because it isn't overloaded with scrubbing particles but I think it might disappoint some and could do with a little more 'scrubby' action. Overall it's a pleasant product to use and doesn't scratch the skin to leave it red raw or irritated.

I've had great fun exploring more products from Nature's Kitchen and it's lovely to have skincare which brings a little cheer to your bath time routine. I recommend exploring the range for yourself. review Love Lula, Antipodes, Sukin, Ere Perez, Ooh! Oils of Heaven Organic
(I participate in the Love Lula Blogger Programme and can select products from their site, I am not obligated to review)

Last month I had travel on my mind. Since we were only taking cabin baggage to Italy I was on the look out for products below 100ml. I chose the Antipodes Skin-Plumping Minis simply for the Rejoice Day Cream which is one of my favourite products. I first reviewed it back in 2012 so I hope that goes to show how genuine my love is for this moisturiser. I adore the sugary vanilla scent and how it feels on my skin. It's super hydrating without feeling heavy. In the Skin-Plumping Minis set you also receive Hosanna H20 Intensive Skin-Plumping Serum, unfortunately as it contains linalool I have to pass it on to someone else to use.

Rosehip is one of my all time favourite ingredients so a travel sized Ooh! - Oils of Heaven Organic Rosehip Cell-Regenerating Face Oil was an easy choice. I had a last minute change of mind when packing and I actually ended up taking their Argan oil away with me but either way Ooh! is a good brand. I've used their oils many times before and would always recommend you check them out.

swatch ere perez olive oli lipstick in cocktail
I'm totally rubbish at picking makeup colours online and Ere Perez Olive Oil Lipstick in Cocktail wasn't exactly as I envisage. It's described as "Earthy Rose" which makes sense now I see it in person. Cocktail is a colour you can swipe for tint or build for intensity. At first I was a little unsure but it's growing on me. I prefer a hint of colour so apply gently. The formulation is very easy to wear and non-drying, in fact I often forget I'm wearing it which is unusual for me. You know I love Ere Perez as I've reviewed numerous products from them and rarely do they disappoint me.

My final product is Sukin Super Greens Detoxifying Facial Scrub. Lets just get it out there that I exfoliator once a month. The only variation on this might be on my summer holiday if my sun cream leaves me feeling greasy and overloaded. I'm a firm believer that most people over use exfoliators which contributes to skin issues and micro damage. That being said when I do buy a facial scrub it has to be very gentle, I can't stand anything which scratches or feels overly gritty. The Sukin Super Greens Detoxifying Facial Scrub ticks all the right boxes. The exfoliating particles are held in a lotion and it feels gentle and soft on my skin. Up until this point my exfoliator of choice has been Antipodes Reincarnation but Sukin has impressed me as a budget friendlier alternative.

If you are interested in any of the products mentioned I've linked to brand websites or online stockists.

Natural Skincare Acure Organics, Ere Perez, Herbfarmacy, Lyonsleaf
Disclaimer – contains affiliate link. I'm part of the Love Lula Blogger Programme and can select PR samples each month, I am not obligated to review and all opinions are my own. Prices correct at time of publication.

Time is flying by and I'm back with another selection of short reviews for products available through Love Lula.

Acure Organics Brightening Facial Scrub
I chose this exfoliator for my holiday because after a day at the pool nothing feels better than scrubbing off the layers of sun cream. My skin is delicate so I need to be cautious, it was a gamble picking Acure but seem to have paid off. The scrub is a wonderful dark forest green colour which I find a little messy but I’m someone who exfoliates in the shower so it easily washes away. Walnut shell has been crushed into a fine grain which feels good on my skin. The aroma is interesting. At first I thought it was ginger but once I looked closer at the ingredients I realised I was mistaken and it's spearmint and sage. I still have to take my time with this scrub because it can feel a little scratchy but I enjoy using it.

Note of caution for those with fragrance allergies: I've noticed a lack of essential oil allergens listed on Acure products. In October I ordered the Night Cream and alarm bells went off because it smells strongly of lavender, which I know contains the allergen linalool. The US doesn't have the same labelling regulations as the EU but as Acure sells products here they would be expected to comply. Under the EU Cosmetic directive there are 26 fragrance allergens which should be identified on products if the concentration exceeds 0.001% in leave-on products and 0.01% in rinse-off products. Only Acure knows whether this is applicable to their range and I raised the question with them. They failed to give me a straight answer and simply told me "Please refrain from using any product that you feel may cause a reaction"

Ere Perez Correcting Calendula Powder Foundation - Light 6g
If you’ve followed my blog for years then you know my foundation of choice and I rarely try anything new. Disaster struck when it went out of stock weeks ago and I didn’t have the patience to wait an order from USA. I’ve tried a couple of Ere Perez products and liked them so the foundation seemed a good choice. The downside is there are only three colour options so I was really sitting on the fence whether Light would be the right one for me. I was pleasantly surprised that it doesn’t make me a ghost or tangerine. It layers on lightly so perhaps doesn't cover all imperfections and I have a fair amount to redness that I like to hide. As with my regular foundation if I want to improve coverage I’ll layer over my Madara Tiniting Fluid. It’s a super fine milled powder with a lovely silky texture so it’s the closest I’ve found to my favourite brand. It also gives a nice sheen to my skin, not glitter ball shimmer but a little sparkle of sorts to make you look airbrushed. I am impressed as most other brands I’ve tried are patchy and heavy on my skin. The downside for me is Ere Perez costs £27 for 6g which makes it more expensive than my usual brand.

Herbfarmacy Easy Breathe Balm 20ml
Herbfarmacy is a great brand and when I ordered this Easy Breathe Balm I was suffering with a horrible cold. I must admit I was slightly disappointed because I wanted this product to pack a punch in scent but found it weak. After my cold passed it smelt a little stronger but still didn’t quite hit the spot.

Lyonsleaf Marshmallow Soften and Rejuvenate Facial Oil - Unscented
I’m very excited to see one of my favourite brands launch unscented facial oil. As you may know essential oils are hit and miss for my skin so fragrance free eliminates this worry. This facial oil contains a lovely blend of ingredients (baobab, borage, rosehip marshmallow, avocado) so it’s no surprised that I am loving it. It feels rich and luxurious on my dry skin but used sparingly I’m sure other skin types would enjoy. I highly recommend but I’m bias as I’ve been using Lyonsleaf products for a few years. If you prefer there is a scented facial oil.

Review Sukin Nourishing Chia Seed Oil

Over the years I’ve only tried a handful of products from Sukin so when I was given the opportunity to try something from the Super Greens range I accepted. Sukin is an Australian brand launched in 2007, offering affordable natural skincare with an impressive free from promise (no sodium lauryl sulphate, sodium laureth sulphate, synthetic fragrances, animal derivatives, harsh detergents, propylene glycol, artificial colours, triethanolamine, mineral oils, EDTA or parabens).

The Super Greens range includes a mask, scrub, serum, moisturiser and oil, all of which sound great but I chose the Nourishing Chia Seed Oil because it is free from essential oils. The blend of ingredients is quite interesting. Chia seed is the top ingredient but the “super green” name comes from the combination of kale, spirulina, parsley and chlorella. There is also hemp seed, avocado, olive and baobab. I’m certainly not going to make any claims about putting “super green” ingredients on to your skin but if you love them in your diet then why not go that extra step?

The other day I spotted a question asking how people use oils and I think many people are still hesitant or unsure how to use them. Once you figure out what ingredients are best for you, then I believe you should use them depending on your mood and how your skin feels. I will use on a morning and evening some days and just evenings on others. I use them alone or under moisturisers if my skin is feeling parched. I tend to use oils more often in winter than summer.

In comparison to others, I find Sukin Nourishing Chia Seed Oil feels light and my skin absorbs it quickly. It is recommended for all skin types so worth a try even if you have an opposite skin type to my own (which is dry & eczema prone). Since there are no essential oils in this serum I’d describe it as bland and neutral in scent (nothing too offensive on the nostrils). In all honesty this oil wouldn’t completely replace other favourites as I would miss my much loved rosehip. Saying that what I do think is totally awesome to see is authentic natural products on the high street as Sukin is now available at Holland & Barrett and Boots (it’s also widely available online).

Have you tried any Sukin products? Do you have a favourite?

Disappointing Products featuring John Masters, RMS and Kimberley Sayer
(gifted/unpaid)

From time to time a product lands on the mat which I'm excited to try but it doesn't quite live up to expectations. I realised I had a little collection of items I wasn't reaching for or enthusing over so I thought I would share my thoughts with you. These are my honest opinions and are certainly not intended to undervalue the brands.

John Masters Organics Lime & Spruce Hand Cream
The texture and formulation of this hand cream is really lovely and I can't fault it in that respect but sadly it's the fragrance which is a let down. It reminds me of ....well for want of a better description....toilet cleaner and I just can't get past it. There are two other scents available (Orange & Rose and Lemon & Ginger) so maybe in the future I'll give these a whirl in the hope they would suit me better.

RMS Beauty Lip Shine in Bloom
I'm super happy with the colour I chose. Bloom is similar to my natural lip colour making it perfect for everyday wear when going for that "no makeup, makeup look". The problem I have with this lip shine is it just doesn't last on me. It disappears so quickly when just going about my day. I was hoping it would leave a stain when it wore off so re-application didn't have to occur very often. RMS Beauty has a cult following but I'm really not seeing what the fuss is about with this one.

Kimberly Sayer Gentle Almond and Lavender Organic Face Scrub
Instead of digging into this product and giving you a review the lid remains firmly on and I've ended up wanting some questions answered. 1) a US brand sold in the UK should still comply with EU regulations so why is the ingredients label in English and not INCI? 2) The poor labelling set off alarm bells which then leads to the question are there essential oil allergens that should be declared? The allergens must be declared at certain thresholds within a product so it might not be relevant in this case but I need to be cautious none the less. 3) a number of UK websites declare the face scrub as Vegan but MILK AMINO ACIDS & LECITHIN are listed so confirmation of sources would be helpful.

The reply....."Please find ingredients attached. We Steam Distill the majority of our organic oils which creates a pure and allergen free product. All our milk amino acids are from a vegetable source and the product is Vegan."

I asked again about changing labels and the reply....."We will be for EU countries most definitely"

I have to say that the replies were short and sharp and I've had better engagement with other brands on matters like these. Also thought it was silly that KS could provide ingredients in INCI in an email but not put it on a label

Barefoot Botanicals SOS Repair & Renew Nourishing Cleansing Cream
I've known this brand for years and I recommend to those with eczema but as you may or may not know back in 2015 I was diagnosed with sensitivity to linalool. With wash off products I can sometimes get away with the presence of linalool but sadly my skin reacted to this cleansing cream. I'm totally gutted about this but such is my life right now.

Have you tried any of these products? What are your opinions about them?

Review Antipodes Reincarnation Pure Facial Exfoliator
Exfoliators are not something I use on a weekly basis, my skin is far to sensitive and prone to eczema for what are often harsh treatments. A muslin wash cloth with my cleanser is an adequate solution for me. I might use a scrub once a month or on holiday they are handy for removing the build up of SPF but it has to be super gentle.

Environmental Issues Ban Microbeads in Cosmetic Products
Back in 2013 I wrote a brief article about microbeads in scrubs. If you are unaware Microbeads are the little balls of plastic in an exfoliator that help you scrub away the dead skin cells. The problem is they are not biodegradable and find their way into our oceans which in turn threatens the marine wildlife. Fish are eating the microbeads and then you eat the fish! Why do companies use plastic? I'm guessing the simple answer is money, I am sure plastic is cheaper than natural alternatives. I really wish manufacturers (and consumers) would see past this and pay a little more to help protect the world around us.

The reason I decided to re-visited this topic is because the US has taken steps to ban plastic microbeads. President Obama signed into law the The Microbead-Free Waters Act on 28 December 2015 but now we need the UK/EU to follow their example. At present the UK Government is relying on a voluntary phase out by the European cosmetics industry but is that good enough? If consumers are unaware of the problem and products continue to be purchased that isn't much incentive for manufacturers to make the change. The site www.beatthemicrobead.org have set up a petition which you can sign. It needs to reach 100,000 signatures to be considered for debate in Parliament. There is also an app to download enabling you to check products when out shopping.

If you are looking for a facial scrub without microbeads and need a natural/organic recommendation, let me suggest Antipodes Reincarnation Facial Exfoliator, Andalou Naturals 1000 Roses Pearl ExfoliatorPai Kukui & Jojoba Bead Skin Brightening Exfoliator, Trilogy Gentle Facial Exfoliant.

Review MyChelle Hello Beautiful Collection Dry
You’ll have noticed from recent posts that I bought the MyChelle Hello Beautiful Collection (for dry skin) to take on my trip to Porto. There were three reasons why I bought the kit - I am familiar with MyChelle as I previously reviewed some of their products, I only had cabin allowance luggage and I was curious about the Sun Shield.

This box set for dry skin contains Creamy Pumpkin Cleanser (7.5ml), Tropical Skin Smoother (7.5ml), Ultra Hyaluronic Hydrating Serum (5ml), Fruit Enzyme Mist (5ml), Deep Repair Cream (7.5ml) and Sun Shield Unscented Broad Spectrum SPF 28 (7.5ml). They are small samples but I made them last 5 days by mixing and matching depending on my needs rather than using in the Step by Step way suggested.

Review MyChelle Hello Beautiful Collection Dry
All the products were very nice but only a couple stood out to me in a way that would have me consider buying full sizes. I liked the Deep Repair cream. It left my skin feeling soft, sat well under mineral powder and felt hydrating enough to combat any dryness. The Sun Shield took me by surprise and dare I say one of the best natural sunscreen I have tried. This sunscreen gives UVA & UVB protection and contains Zinc Oxide (ZinClear™) and Titanium Dioxide. The cream massaged into my skin easily without the dreaded white cast. It did not feel heavy and I was sightseeing in 30 degree heat. Often natural sunscreens cause me heat rash but I did not experience any problems. I particularly like that it is unscented and would consider buying the full size.

Overall, the kit is a good way to introduce yourself to the MyChelle range. There are six collections in total for various skin types – Combination, Dry, Age Defense, Age Spot/UV Discovery, Sensitive, Oil/Blemish Control. You can buy direct from the MyChelle.

Have you tried any products from MyChelle? What would you recommend?

Elements Natural Skincare for Men
Elements* range is for men so I volunteered Mr Sugarpuffish to try his hand at reviewing and guinea pig products but I did not rule out trying them myself. It makes writing easier if I also have a feel for the products. Elements products are Cruelty free (BUAV Leaping Bunny), certified organic by the Soil Association and approved by the Vegetarian Society. The range consists of Face Wash, Face Scrub, Shaving Cream and Moisturiser.

Mr Sugarpuffish and I agreed that the shaving cream was pleasant to use but we would have preferred a thicker consistency to give a bit more cushioning for the blade. I have been more than happy using on my legs but he had mixed feelings and I noticed was not reaching for it often. Face scrubs are an alien concept to my man so I have been using this on my legs. I only refrain from trying on my face because of the essential oils. I have enjoyed using the scrub. It is a cream base with jojoba grains which I found to be gentle and not overly abrasive so I did not feel I was doing any harsh damage to my skin. The moisturiser is light but contains ingredients (jojoba, pomegranate, avocado & apricot oils) which hydrate the skin. Mr Sugarpuffish has been happy using it but has not been blown away by it.

The price point (£16 - £22) is higher than I normally pay for men's skincare (yes, I buy his products) but about average for certified organic brand. I asked Mr Sugarpuffish for his final thoughts and he was sitting on the fence, he experienced some sensitivity which means he has been reluctant to give up his existing products for Elements. I would advise caution in using these products if you have very sensitive skin as there are a number of fragrance allergens due to the essential oils. I do think natural and organic men’s skincare is an overlooked area of the market so Elements does not have much competition. I am happy to recommend that you check out this brand. Mr Sugarpuffish may have been unsure but I have nice smooth legs so that must count for something.

Skin & Tonic London
I have my eye on a new skincare range from Skin & Tonic London. I adore the ethos of the brand "Our products only use a MAXIMUM of 7 simple, organic and local or Fair Trade." The story behind the creation of this brand is a familiar one. Sarah was diagnosed with endometriosis and this triggered a desire to simplify her lifestyle and pay attention to what goes into her body and on her skin. She started to formulate her own natural and synthetic free skincare to fit her needs.

The product line is not huge but covers the basics for a good routine - Steam Clean, Brit Beauty Oil, Gentle Scrub, Lip Balms, Calm Balm and for the gents, Beard Oil.

I am instantly drawn to Calm Balm, a multifunctional product which contains my favourite ingredients, Roman Chamomile, English Lavender and Welsh Calendula. It is suggested this balm can be use for hydrating dry skin, massaging into muscles, applying to wrists and temples to calm your mood and aid sleep.

You can buy products direct from Skin & Tonic's website.

Time to Unwind with Relaxing Skincare Products
I think most of us enjoy having a bit of a top to toe pamper at home. I have picked out some products from my collection which I use when I want to unwind.

I enjoy soaking my feet in Pringle & Fairweather Fizzy Foot Soak. Our tootsies often get neglected, mine included. The fragrance of the soak is relaxing and the cocoa butter helps moisturise dry heels. I will often give my legs a massage. Depending on my mood I will use oil or body butter and my current favourites are Opulentia Organics and Bathing Beauty.

When I want to pamper my face I opt for a mask or scrub and I like using products from Pure Thoughts. Afterwards, I apply a thick layer of moisturiser or facial oil and usually just use whatever I have lying around at the time. Currently I am enjoying the Calming moisturiser from Nourish and the Lavender scent is ideal for relaxation.

How do you like to unwind and what are your favourite products to use?

UPDATE 2020: this scrub has been discontinued but Pure Thoughts are still trading, the new product range includes soap, bath & body and candles

I like products from Pure Thoughts and I have dip in and out of their range over the years. It had been a while since my last purchase so I decided to place an order. If you have been following my YouTube channel you will have heard me mention the Raspberry & Almond Face Scrub.

“Wake up with the sweet scent of real raspberries, ground almonds and a dash of honey. Together they create a healthy exfoliating treatment to help prepare sleepy skin for the day ahead.”

This scrub is a powder which you mix with water. It can be a bit messy but I do not mind. The beauty of a product in powder form is an extended shelf life and free from preservatives. I do not exfoliate regularly so usually a scrub will expire before I reach the end of the tube. Most of the time a muslin cloth is enough exfoliation for me but every once in a while I like to have a deeper polish. It is a gritty scrub so may not be suitable for everyone but I do find by varying the amount of water I can adjust the consistency to suit me. I will advise that you need to be careful with scrubs as too much, too often can be damaging to the skin. The bright pink/red colour from raspberries just makes me smile. Your face does look like a horror movie when applied as it momentarily stains in colour.

Overall, I think this is a nice product which does the job it was intended for and it makes my skin feel softer and brighter. I think value for money is great, a 30g jar costs £7 which Pure Thoughts says should be enough for 10 treatments. I also stocked up on some face masks when I placed my order as I like the Banana & Yellow Clay.

Sugarpuffish What's in my bin? - October 2012 Empties
I never get around to writing these sort of posts because I don't get through my products on a monthly basis. This stash you see before you I have been collecting for a couple of months. These are now empty and headed for the recycle bin.

Bodhi Mint Thé - I was given this for my birthday back in the summer. I love Bodhi products they smell amazing and this is my favourite. I will repurchase but I may hold out to see if I get any more for Christmas.

NovExpert Essential cream - I was very disappointed when this ran out. It was a TK Maxx bargain but I can't get hold of it again. I have since replaced it with Dr Organic Pomegranate cream which is another firm favourite.

terre d'Oc gentle face scrub - I have enjoyed using this but I would not repurchase as I prefer other scrubs. It was a pleasure to use and certainly very gentle on the skin.

Antipodes Resurrect Facial Toner - After months of switching around my toner I have finally found my holy grail. I love, love, love this toner and have already repurchased a new bottle.

Balm Balm Coconut Cleanser - this is a firm favourite and a good staple in the cupboard for when my skin is feeling extra sensitive. I will repurchase at some point but am currently trialling a new cleanser.

Sophyto Silken Cleanser - another product I have enjoyed using. I reviewed this the other day. I actually got wrong my estimate how much was remaining in the tube because it ran out the next day.

14 September 2012

I originally wrote this review as a Guest Post for another blog which no longer exists so I've recovered the article and re-published.

For those of you who do not know me I suffer from eczema and allergies. Many people think that sensitive skins should avoid exfoliating. Harsh products full of sharp particles are not ideal for any skin type, they can damage skin cells. On the other hand gentle exfoliation allows you to remove dead skin and surface impurities to leave skin refreshed and radiant. Even those with eczema should not shy away from exfoliating. You just need to use common sense and appropriate products.

Ingredients in skin care are very important to me and I believe in using natural products free from synthetic chemical ingredients. Keeping that in mind let me introduce you to the French brand, Terre d’Oc. Products are natural, organic and fair trade. Terre d’Oc has five collections in their range. I shall review the Gentle Face Scrub from the Coconut from Bali collection.

The scrub is made from combining coconut with bamboo powder. 98 % of the total ingredients are from natural origin and 70 % of the total ingredients are from organic farming. It has a creamy consistency with an exotic fragrance from sandalwood with a hint of sweetness. This exfoliator does not have traditional scrub particles, so there is no need to worry about damaging sensitive skin. It is not a smooth cream there is a grainy texture which I assume is from coconut flesh. You do have to put a certain amount of faith into the product that it is exfoliating the skin. I find the easiest way to remove the product is by using it in the shower or with a damp cloth. I do feel this leaves my skin feeling soft and never dry or sore from scrubbing.

Sugarpuffish's Everyday Favourite Products
(* indicated gifted PR sample)

I thought I would write a little update on my current skin care routine. These are products that I have been using for a number of months and have repurchased.

Dr Organic Manuka Face Scrub – it takes me ages to finish a tube, but this is my 2nd purchase since reviewing

Dr Organic Manuka Face Mask – a recent purchase, I do not use face masks on a regular basis but have found myself reaching for this one. Look out for an upcoming review.

Bodhi –  I quickly fell in love with this brand and have gifted to friends, pictured here is Mint The which was a Birthday Gift, I absolutely adore this fragrance. It’s fresh and perfect for summer weather. I also think it helps unblock my stuffy nose, a symptom from hayfever.

Livpurely Coconut & Vanilla Moisturiser – this was part of a beauty swap and I adore it, the fragrance is heavenly.

Dr Organic Pomegranate Cream – a wonderful budget moisturiser and a little goes a long way, I am still using the same jar which I reviewed in April.

Tropic Pure Plant Vitamin Toner – a rediscovery which I am enjoying every day.

Organic Surge Mositure Boost Shampoo – I think this is now my third tube, I like how it lathers, it is affordable and does not irritate my scalp.

Giovanni 50/50 Conditioner – this is my second bottle it takes me several months to use this product up as I need the tinest amount, a great conditioner which has yet to be beaten.

Deep Steep Body Mist – I am still using up the same bottle that I reviewed several months back, I do not use daily as I am a bit forgetful but I love the fragrance, perfect to freshen up with.

Salcura Gentle DermaSpray – I have just repurchase my second bottle, resurrected from a drawer, I now can not be without, by far the best product for my eczema, the spray is cooling and calms itching.  A little tip for eczema sufferers is to keep creams/spray in fridge, the cooling sensation can be very nice especially if skin is hot and sticky from warm weather or irritation.

100% Organics – At the moment I try a new cleanser every month and this is the current one which I have been using every day.

Green People Eye Cream – this is the same tube I reviewed, I often forget to apply but I do like this, lasts ages and budget friendly.

Antipodes Rejoice Day cream* – can you believe this is the same tube I reviewed back in May.  It’s like Mary Poppins handbag it never runs out. I have used this once a day since it was sent to me, defiantly great value for money.

Let me know if you have tried any of these products.  Also did you enjoy this post would you like to see them on a regular basis?

1 July 2012

This week I was approached by Mary Elizabeth Bodycare. I declined an offer to review products because I am testing some new ones at this time and I have to be careful not to overload my skin. Since the company is of genuine interest to me I did ask for a press release so I could share their product launch with you guys. I know many of you will be adding this range to your shopping list.  Cecilia Rathe started the company because successful treatment for skin cancer left her skin irritated and she found nothing soothed it. Cecilia is a qualified aromatherapist and a Member of the Federation of Holistic Therapists, so she fully understands the importance of thinking carefully about what you put on your skin. The products launched are Frankincense and Rose Moisturiser, Camellia and Geranium Gentle Face Scrub, Juniper and Jojoba Hand Cream, Spearmint and Tea Tree Nurture Balm. These are manufactured in England and contain natural, organic ingredients with pure essential oils and no SLS, parabens, petroleum or synthetic colours or fragrances.

18 January 2012

I thought I would do a quick mini review of the products I picked up at the end of last year in TK Maxx.

Lamas Beauty Pumpkin Spice Polish 3 in 1 Instant Facial – The only thing I like about this scrub is it smells amazing and reminds me of cookies.  The grains are small and suspended in a gel.  I felt like I was getting a deep down skin scrub but without the feeling of attacking my skin with a scourer pad. However after washing this off, my face became dry very quickly and I had to apply more moisturiser than usual.  I definitely prefer the scrubs I have from Dr Organic and Tropic

Naturaleve Rejuvenating Balm – Another item I dislike.  Firstly the scent is very bland for a product containing rose geranium and pomegranate. It is completely different to my other balms (Balmology & Natural U) because this one is a liquid.  As you rub into your skin it turns into a consistency that reminds me of a lubricant (yuck!). After using this I did wake up feeling like it had clogged up my skin and I noticed over time I developed pimples.  My spots could be as a result of using this product but equally it may be down to hormones or the two new cleansers I have been testing.

Tisserand Renewing Cream Body Wash in Wild Rose & Lemon Leaf – This produces a creamy lather, leaves my skin feeling soft and I have not seen any signs of dryness.  Fragrance is always something personal and I don't dislike the scent but neither do I love it.

Heathcote & Ivory Bath & Body Handwash in Blueberry & White Tea – Out of all the items I bought this is the one I like the most.  I have been using this as a handwash.  I love the fragrance; it is fruity and makes me smile.  I often struggle with hand soaps because of my sensitive skin but so far this is not causing any irritation or dryness so that makes me happy.

Overall, this latest haul was a big disappointment.  The only item I would re-purchase would be the Heathcote & Ivory liquid soap.  Have you tried any of these skin care products? What did you think? Leave a comment below.

Every Christmas I end up getting sick, last year it was flu and shingles this year it's the common cold.  I was getting fed up sitting on the sofa feeling sorry for myself so today I ventured out.  It was short trip nothing exciting but I stopped off at TK Maxx and here is what I picked up.

Lamas Beauty Pumpkin Spice Polish 3 in 1 Instant Facial £7.99 (RRP £24). This is paraben free and Vegan.  I must admit I was enticed by the scent rather than price.

Naturaleve Rejuvenating Balm £4.99 (RRP £10).  I haven't heard of this brand before and it is made in England.  This does not contain parabens, petrochemicals, SLS, artificial preservatives, colours or fragrance.  According to the packaging this is an over night treatment to replenish moisture.

Tisserand Renewing Cream Body Wash £4.99 (RRP £7.40).  I love Tisserand hand cream so thought this was worth trying.  It is free from parabens, SLES and synthetic fragrances.

Heathcote & Ivory Bath & Body Handwash in Blueberry & White Tea.  I found this one in the bargain bucket section for £2.  It is not the most natural of products but it is free from Sulphates and Parabens.

Tropic Skincare
(Gifted PR samples)

UPDATE 2021: 10 years on and Tropic Skincare has gone through several changes and now boasts a vast collection of products. My original review is outdated due to product changes but it remains on this page for reference. The image has been replaced to show the latest version of the products featured in this review.

For those of you that are not familiar with the brand Tropic is a natural skincare line. Products are formulated from plant ingredients, they are cruelty free and vegan. When I think of face masks I typically imagine a mud or clay mask but Tropic’s Polishing Mask is completely different. This is a 2 in 1 product that acts as an exfoliator and luxury moisturiser. In the bottom of the jar is a layer of rice flour and sugar cane and suspended on top is oil. This mask contains wonderful ingredients - Organic Rice Flour, Sugar Cane, Golden Jojoba Oil, Macadamia Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Natural Vitamin E, Acai Berry Oil, Camomile Essential Oil, Lemon Essential Oil, Sweet Orange Essential Oil, Peppermint Essential Oil. The fragrance is citrus which is uplifting but not overpowering.

So how does it work? You are instructed to massage onto dry skin, leave for 2 minutes and rinse with warm water. As the product is a little bit messy I opt to use it in the shower. The granules are very fine, soft and almost a powder. If my face is feeling overly sensitive I dampen my skin first by either splashing with water or wiping over with Tropic Toner. As you massage the granules melt away and you are left with a heavy layer of oil. Do not panic about the oily layer left behind, by the time you finish your shower and get dressed the oil has been absorbed and you are left with super soft silky smooth gorgeous skin. It is suggested you use this mask twice a week. I would suggest using it as often as you feel necessary. Personally I use it as a skin treat every couple of weeks. It is a gentle product but I do have to be careful not to over exfoliate my face.

Tropic 2 in 1 Polishing Mask stands out to me as being quite unique in it's delivery. When you have sensitive skin exfoliators can be drying but the benefit with this product is the oil replenishes moisture levels. Aside from being a bit messy, I really cannot find anything bad to say about this product.

The Tropic Pure Plant Skincare Organic 2 in 1 Polishing mask can be purchased from the website - tropicskincare.com. If you are interested in reading other reviews head over to my blog post Tropic ABC Collection

Dr Organic is a large skincare line which can be found on the high street at Holland & Barrett.  I have been looking at the range for months and months but never took the plunge into making a purchase.

The brand contains no harsh chemicals and all products are suitable for vegetarians (some are vegan friendly).  You will find a variety of skin care items within the following ranges - Aloe Vera, Pomegranate, Tea Tree, Vitamin E, Lavender, Virgin Olive Oil, Royal Jelly, Rose Otto & Manuka Honey.

I had been looking for a natural face scrub/exfoliator for quite some time.  Even though I have sensitive skin I like to use a face scrub so I can eliminate flaky dry patches.   It is important that the scub is very gentle in order not to aggravate my skin.

Dr Organic has a face scrub in 3 of its ranges - Manuka Honey, Rose Otto and Virgin Olive Oil.  I opted for Manuka Honey because it is known for its excellent healing properties. So the packaging blurb says A bioactive deep cleansing exfoliant with natural skin restoring and nourishing properties. Bioactive Organic Manuka Honey has a host of skin repairing a restoring properties. In combination with a complex blend of bioactive, natural and organic ingredients and formulated using natural micro particles of volcanic lava, corn cob powder and ground fruit seed, we have produced an exceptionally deep cleansing, repairing exfoliant that removes impurities and excess oil whilst restoring, nourishing and moisturising the skin to give a radiant youthful glow.”

This scrub has a very strong smell of honey which I like but I can see that it might not suit every sense of smell.  The product has a cream consistency.  The grains are very fine but still have enough abrasion to do the job.  After using this product my skin is soft, glowing and does not feel tight or dry.  I do not have to apply my moisturiser immediately after I have scrubbed.

The entire range has a really good price point.  I purchased this scrub for £5.99 (125ml) there was a slight variation in price between this one and the Rose Otto and Olive Oil but only by a few pennies.  Overall I am very impressed.  I am definitely going to be purchasing this product again and will be taking a look at the other skin care products by Dr Organic.

Has anyone else tried Dr Organic?  I would love to hear what you think.
